Does a Reduced Profile free up computer resources?

Featured Replies

I have been wondering if creating a second profile (XP) for simming only and disabling as many items such as scanner, printer etc etc as possible in that profile, will actually free up more resources.I am assuming that if an item has been disabled MS will not load drivers associated with the item.Is this basically correct and is there an easy method to prove it?Thanks in advance for any input.

"I have been wondering if creating a second profile (XP) for simming only and disabling as many items such as scanner, printer etc etc as possible in that profile, will actually free up more resources."Absolutely, freeing up resources will help! Another option is our own Ken Salter's FSAutostart (available here in the library). It will shut down any services and programs you wish it to before starting a sim session and then turn them all back on once you're done in FS. very powerful tool.Hope this helps,Greg

As far as proving it, you can create a flight out of Seattle using default aircraft, and chart the FPS on the same flight using different profiles.I have set up profiles and it does make a big difference, IMHO, but more importantly it also teaches you about what is exactly running on your system. Then when an unknown comes up, you can easily recognize it. Black Viper is the best resource on how to accomplish this, and I and probably others can answer any questions you have, if you come across something unusual.Regards,Joeaopa.gif" border="0" alt="Grab My FREEWARE Voice recognition Profiles here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=58334]Cessna 172 Voice Profile[/a][a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=60740]FSD Avanti Voice Profile[/a].You will need the main FREEWARE Flight Assistant program to use it, get it here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=genutils&DLID=39661]Flight Assistant 2.2[/a]

Can you tell me more about your statement that "Black Viper is the best resource on how to accomplish this" ??What and where is Black Viper. (I probably should already know this)Thanks

"What and where is Black Viper."Black Viper is a guy who loves his cat and spends waayyy too much time playing with computers. The upside is that he knows how to tune and tweak the Windows OS's like few others.Sadly his site seems to be down at this time. But you can use The WayBack Machine to view some of his archives. Input "www.blackviper.com" and then click on his last archive. You should study his Services Tweaks for whatever OS you're using.Hope this helps,Greg
