Going from my present setup:P4-2.4G on ASUS P4S8X-X socket 478, chipset SIS 648TO >>>P4-3.2 on ASUS P5P800 socket 775, chipset Intel 865 PEbut using the same DDR 333 (3X512=1.5G ) since i already bought these lately, will that upgrade improve my performance any?(using ATI 128M 9800 pro 256bit video) allen

Hi Allen, as far as I could judge, that swap will result in a relatively marginal increase. Maybe 12-15% from where you are now. Since you're looking to replace 2 components only, perhaps opt for a cheap AMD64 (i.e. the 3000) and a nForce3 mainboard (which has an AGP interface)? FYI, I upgraded from a P4 3GHz to a 3200-AMD64 and got roughly 40% more performance. This increase is most noticeable in areas where FS 'suffers' most. Hope this adds to thoughts, good luck and kind regards Jaap PS, pls note, in case and if you want to use all of your RAM modules (3pcs), you'll have to get one of the new Venice cores (which AMD claims to support more than 4 RAM banks at max. speeds). The 3 sticks you have represent a total of 6 banks (3 double-sided modules). With 2 sticks you'll not have any troubles. Whilst at it, you might need to check your power supply whether it has at least 20-22A on the 12V string if you want to swap to the 64 world without having to get a new PSU.

In CPU-limited scenarios, you will see ~33% increase in FPS. The only problem is, IMHO, the game vascillates between being CPU versus GPU limited. So, in the case of GPU-critical scenarios, you won't see this sort of increase, but you will see some. Depends on your resolution and AA/AF settings as to the level of GPU-critical situations you see.Noel
