August 18, 200520 yr I have an ATI XT800 card. I would like to record the output while flying in FS9 and be able to play it back, edit it, and make a movie out of it. Does anyone have any experience doing this? If so, I'd appreciate any help and recommendations as to hardware, connections, etc. What type output do you get and how big are the files when played back? Is the resolution good? Thanks, regards, Bob.
August 19, 200520 yr Bob,I have an X850 XT ...but I think both are similar.I only checked the video out for recording when I first got the card. However, I did not do any recording. Here is out it should work(remember I did not do any recording)1. Turn Computer off2. Connect the video out to a camera or VCR3. Turn the output device on 4. Boot up5. You get a choice of which monitor to display 1 or 26. Choose one7. You should get a display on your output device....camera or VCR8. Press Record on your device9. Then you have to play it from your device and capture it with a capturing software like Nero or Pinnacle........10. Capture in AVI format then convert(encode) to mpg2 format/Hope this helps.Abe
August 20, 200520 yr Author Hi Abe. Thanks. Then from what you say you can't fly while watching the monitor and be recording the flight on the recorder at the same time. Is that correct? Best regards, Bob.
August 20, 200520 yr Bob,I think you CAN fly. My setup is with 2 monitors, I assume that you are using 2 monitors. In this case, you can control and interact with monitor1, while the other one would be replaced or projected to your output device....camera, vcr......display.Try it and let me know.Abe
August 20, 200520 yr Author Hi Abe. No I am only using one monitor. I don't have a video recorder yet either. That's why I wanted to know what to get, if it was possible to do. Thanks and best regards, Bob.
August 20, 200520 yr Hi BobThe VCR's are a dime a dozen, real cheap...just make sure you get at least a 4-head vcr. The other option is to get a movie digital camera they are fairly cheap and you get much better results.Abe
August 20, 200520 yr Author HI. I have a VCR but no camcorder. Maybe I'll try the VCR. Thanks, regards, Bob.
