Does FS 9 support 5.1 Speaker arrangement?

Featured Replies

I am thinking of buying some new speakers with 5.1 arrangement instead of my old 2 speaker setup.Does anyone know if this is supported or will work with FS 9?Thanks,Greg

works for me, you have to adjust the fs9.cfg sound section though to change the number of speakers. I have logitech z-680s, the best speakers I've seen with my audigy 4

Hi,I too have a 5.1 setup and get excellent separation with my setup. Engine sounds from front and atc from rear.Ed

Thanks folks, I take the leap!Greg

I run my PC through my Pioneer Dolby 5.1/DTS receiver via an optical/SPDIF cable and the sound is awesome! I get all-round engine noise, ATC is mainly through the front centre, but environmental sounds; wind, rain, thunder come from all around, and it's quite startling to hear an AI plane coming up behind you!Do it...you'll love it! :)

I didn't know that you had to adjust a setting in the FS9 config file to get 5.1 working. You should put that as a tip under the "Tips" section in this forum!Scott :-)

So what does the entry in the FS9 config look like? Also. which section is it under?Thanks!Scott :-)

Hi Scott,You don't! That is why there is no tip in the Tips section. Here is my sound section for those that may not believe:[sOUND]SOUND=1SOUND_FADER1=0.100000SOUND_FADER2=1.000000SOUND_FADER3=1.000000SOUND_FADER4=-1.000000SOUND_FADER5=1.000000SOUND_FADER6=1.000000SOUND_QUALITY=2Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg

All very nice but i think you will find that FS9 sound is stereo the only way to make it seem like 5.1 is to use ProLogic 1 or 2 which will use all the speakers but its still stereo

SOUND=1SOUND_FADER1=0.300000SOUND_FADER2=0.300000SOUND_FADER3=0.500000SOUND_FADER4=0.100000SOUND_FADER5=0.500000SOUND_FADER6=1.000000SOUND_QUALITY=2Channels=4SamplesPerSec=44100BitsPerSample=16

Well, I got the 5.1 setup. Sounds great for music! Presently without changing my fs9.cfg, I don't get as much lateralization looking left and right as I used to with the 2.1 speakers and atc does come from the front [different from Jim's]. Haven't had a chance to hear AI yet.For those above that tweaked, is it hit and miss to try to find the best sound combinations, or is there some logic to it.My settings [don't know where they came from] seem rather different than those above, and there is no mention of "channels":[sOUND]SOUND=1SOUND_FADER1=0.860000SOUND_FADER2=0.360000SOUND_FADER3=0.610000SOUND_FADER4=0.370000SOUND_FADER5=0.500000SOUND_FADER6=1.000000SOUND_QUALITY=2Any help would be appreciated.Greg
