Radeon X800 GT FS2004 panel flickering

Featured Replies

Hi guys,I have my system new installed in the last week.I hav now a Radeon X800 graphiccard and the latest omega drivers installed.I made a testflight yesterday. Suddenly my panel starts to flicker. I disabled "Render to Texture". No flickering, but shortly after i had a crash to desktop from my FS. Tried to find the problem. After 2 hours a found it.If Render to Texture in enabled in FS, the panel flickers. If it is disabled, the panel stops flickering, but the FS crashed by loading 77% weather or during the flight. Is there a solution or workaround ? Can someonehelp me.thanksMarkus

The CTD is caused probably by the fact that you are using dxt based textures for your clouds. So change the cloud textures to higher res ones or non dxt and your problems will go.Darren

Ok, but on my last pc , Radeon 9600XT Card, i used the same textures and everything was ok.Do you think with another driver for my card the problem should be gone? What driver are you using?

Hi,First of all, you need to make sure that *ALL TRACES* of a previous driver is GONE! In my "Add/Remove programs" I get an ATI Uninstall entry, and it really does the job. Strange, however: I haven't seen people referring to it, but rather to another ATI driver remover - do a search for it, if you don't have the applet I mentioned. Then re-install your drivers.HTH & BRGDSSven Sorensen, EKCH

Hi,should i reinstall the same driver? I have completely reinstalled my winxp and fs. Do you think the original ATI Driver is better than the omega?

Your new card is much more powerful than your old card, so you should have no need to run the dxt3 clouds. Put the 32 bits clouds back in and then you will be able to disable Render to Texture without crashing. If you have reinstalled FS you should only need to check the FS9.cfg to make sure that all previous traces of the old card have been removed - check under `display` that you only have the entry for the NEW card. If you have more than one, delete them all, (just the lines after display) then restart FS. Reset your res, Trilinear filtering and your RTT choice and your good to go. This is the standard procedure EVERY time you change drivers - delete the display reference, reboot the sim and it forces it to recognise the new driver. The Omega driver is only a modded standard driver, so it shouldn't do any harm to use it instead of the ATI one, but you should at least start by using a standard driver, or else how will you ever know the new one is better!? I dont know much about removal of ATI drivers, but I do know that Driver Cleaner Pro will do it for you, and that's a very good thing. You don't want any trace of old drivers left in your system, unless you plan on rolling back.Allcott
