Computer Overheating

Featured Replies

HiI Have been getting frequent computer restarts when running FS2004 which i have put down to overheating. I have recently removed the side panel and have seen a considerable decrease in temps. Before i was getting a Motherboard temp of 55-57 deg and graphics card temp of 45deg.Now they are peaking at 41 for MB and 31 for graphics card and the case is much cooler now.think i may have found my problem although havent yet done a long flight.Pity i didnt try this before uninstalling and reinstalling FS plus loads of add ons and Aircraft only to find the same problem. I will have to get another fan installed i think.{they never seem to come with adequet cooling when you buy them}My question is why when the computer reboots it gives the error being a device driver. it makes it very hard to pinpoint the problem.Does anyone else get this problem and how did you fix it.You read so many reports of peoples computers crashing and so many possibilities as to what the problem could be it gets very confusingany thoghts pleaseRegards

I had the same problem. What I determined was that the power supply was mounted directly in front of the CPU due to the configuation and size of the computer case (too small). The P/S gives off a lot of heat and was affecting the CPU temperature. I looked for a new case that mounted the power supply further above the CPU and that had additional locations for extra fans. I found exactly what I was looking for in a local computer supply store for about $50.00. It had all kinds of new features, e.g., modular mounting of the HDs, DVD and floppy drives, locations for large fans, one in the front, one in the rear as well as a smaller one on the side with a duct that lined up and fit over the CPU directing air from the outside of the case directly to the fan over the CPU. So I added the three extra fans and installed all my components in the new case and solved the overheating problem. I am not at my computer at the moment so I can't tell you the brand. But if case size and location of the P/S is causing your problem, That is what I would recomend.
