January 23, 200620 yr Putting together a new machine ... But once again, we have that dreaded video card war.ATI X1800XT or nVidia 7800GTXPreferences and reasoning?I'm not looking at SLI/Crossfire type configurations so single card reasoning only please. Since these things become obsolete the day you buy them, buying 2 of them makes even less sense x( Ray(ps: waiting is not an option ... need machine now)
January 23, 200620 yr That's a tough choice. All I can tell you is what I went for, and that's a 7800GT. I did that not because I felt the nVidia card would be any better than the ATI, but it was more because I am used to nVidia's driver setup and so forth. Needing to install .NET just to install ATI's Catalyst drivers irks me. hahaha. Of course .NET is used by so much else anyways these days, so it is kind of a silly reason of me.I too have heard what P Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
January 24, 200620 yr Yet another option to consider: http://www.hardwarezone.com/articles/view.php?cid=3&id=1808I'd also recommend you search these forums about recent nVidia driver issues (6XXX series and 7XXX series cards).Cheers,Greg
January 24, 200620 yr The 1900 out very soon? ie: < two weeks?I noticed that the ATI cards actually have dual-link DVI and the nVidia cards do not ... strange ... Looks like non-ATI will not drive a high res LCD ... a little baffled by that design choice on nVidia ...Ray
January 24, 200620 yr Ray, a friend just called me and said he was at a Fry's in the S.F. Bay area. He saw some 1900 cards there. Two XT's and three XTX's. I know that's a long drive for you (he,he), but it shows that the cards are at some retailers. He said all the 1900's he saw were ATI brand.Good luck,Greg
