February 1, 200620 yr I've got a Dell XPS3 P4 3.4GHz HT, 1GB, X800 XT 256MB PCI-e using the newest Omega drivers and ATI tray tools. Everything is factory from Dell and I've had it a year with great results. I just bought a new LCD monitor and with all the add-ons, running at 1600x1200 is taking a small hit on FPS. I was thinking about overclocking, but don't really know the benefit versus risk. Is overclocking my card a viable option or is it too risky without aftermarket cooling accessories? Does anyone have a good tutorial on overclocking with ATI tray tools?
February 1, 200620 yr I bought an X800 XT AIW a few weeks ago and immediately cranked it up to 560 core / 580 memory. I used ATI Tool (http://www.techpowerup.com/atitool/) to automatically find my cards limits, which were 570 / 590. I knocked 10Mhz off each of these settings for head room. Oh, and stock cooling too. Temps are about 2-3C higher than stock 500 / 500, but still way lower than my 6800 GT would produce under similar conditions.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
February 2, 200620 yr Author What did you see for FPS improvement? Is there a real gain in performance in FS9?
February 2, 200620 yr Nothing really in FS2004. I just do it because it's free extra performance, it's low risk in terms of potential damage, and in most other games there is a 5-10% performance boost.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
