February 20, 200620 yr The path we suggest is:Main HD (usually C)Documents and settings'Your User Name"Local SettingsThen you should see 2 folders; 'Temp' and 'Temporary Internet files'Delete the contents of both. Having done that, it still doesn't delete all temp files...you need to go to your browser ( I use IE) then 'Tools'/ 'Internet Options' / 'General' / and then the 'Delete Files' button. The command you said you use may already do this, I dont know cause Ive never used it.Hope this helps
February 20, 200620 yr Thanks for help. Unfortunately I've ran out of ideas so it seems that my old video card was not the bottle neck after all.Regards,
February 21, 200620 yr Hey Par,Yeah I'm still a little surprised that I never saw any improvement. Well to be honest I did see an image quality improvement but sim smoothness just wasn't there. I made sure that I got the X700 pro cos it has 128bit memory bandwidth and its clocked a little higher than the standard I think. I would have got a 128mb version had it been available.I think I will just hold off any upgrades on this machine for now. I'm planning on getting a new flight sim rig later this year. Hopefully FSX will bring an end to these stutters. Here's hoping.
February 21, 200620 yr Hey Rob; Just a thought, but you might try lowering your AGP aperatureto 64, and check your PCI latency. I went from an Nvidia FX5200 to an ATI 9600 and with had a dandyincrease in visuals. Also check your virtual memory settings and although I don't currently run an Intel CPU I think most guys disable Hyperthreadingfor FS9' Denny Ps; Try running frame rate at unlimited. February 21, 200620 yr Thanks Denny,I tried pretty much all that. I tried AGP apertures from 32 all the way up to 256 - No difference. My CPU is from before the days of HT, and tried unlimited frames (and really limited), again no difference. As far as virtual memory, do you mean system cache? I tried different values, from system recommended one to static values of 1 and 1.5gb, again no joy. Been tweaking for what seems like forever and I've given up.It might just be that my cpu is the bottleneck here.
February 22, 200620 yr Hi Rob,I am not suprised. A 2.26G P4 is 2002 - so a top of the range graphic card from that period is best paired with it. Also consider that your whole architecture is dated : not just processor speed but bus speeds too. The difference between generations of graphics cards is not as great as some would have you believe...remember the talk of how a gf4 ti4200 eclipsed a gf3ti500? Today, you would hardly care to notice the difference...Neil.
February 22, 200620 yr Again, like one of the poster said before. Check your PCI latency. Especially as your CPU is the bottleneck your card might sit there and hog the PCI bus leaving the CPU missing precious cycles. Get latencycfg or ATI Tool and set the Latency to 64 or 32. It is really worth a try.Alex
February 23, 200620 yr Rob; A couple of other things come to mind. Under "Hardware settings" drop "Global max texture" to themid-range. You'll not notice much visual difference but it helps thestuttering a great deal. Also under this tab uncheck the AA and instead use your adaptercontrol panel to "force" it. Under weather..try limiting vis to something realistic. Also reducingsight and cloud draw distance helps a great deal. Denny Denny Retired Professional Tourist
