April 16, 200620 yr Hey everyone, tonight my FS computer has given me one of the last middle fingers it ever will again. I have been having alot of problems the past several months. Tonight, after booting up the machine, it turned off by itself. Then the light on the front stayed on, but no matter what I did, it would not turn back on. Power supply maybe?? It did fianlly go back on, but at this point, I am sooooooooooooooo fed up, I just want to replace it already. It is going on 3 1/2 years. AMD2800XP 2.1ghz. I was going to buy a new box at Best buy. Gateway, dual core 4200. It has a stock pci express card in there, but would this stock ATI 300?? card still be better than my Nvidia6800gt AGP that I am using now performance wise? Or do I have to spend hundreds more dollars on top of the new machine?? I hope not. The new machine alone is cramping the budget. Thanks for listening and any suggestions. And from my other thread..Happy Easter.
April 17, 200620 yr ATI X300 is much slower than your 6800GT for most games, but in FS the difference is probably not as marked. Can you not upgrade to an X700 or better? Otherwise, I think your FS9 experience will be acceptable, but FSX will likely leave you wanting more.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
April 17, 200620 yr Author Hey Gary, thanks for your reply. I figured with a new rig, that would do fine with the X300 card, due to the huge CPU difference. I just didn't want to spend another 400-500 dollars on top of the new machine if possible. As far as wanting more?? Well, after the money I sunk into the exsisting rig and add-ons, I will always want more. It really is crazy how obsessed I have become wanting perfection. Not to mention the newer add ons get more intense with every release. I am looking forward to the new Digital Aviation Piper Cheyenne that is getting published through Aerosoft. I am hoping to go shopping this week if possible. I just want to make sure the computer I get, will be good for a few years with FSX coming. Or at least be able to have smooth performance in FS9 without having to avoid my add-on airports with any complex plane and getting a slide/strobe show. Thanks again for your input.
