April 27, 200620 yr Just checking as I may need to do an upgrade before it releases. I hope it would be ATX compatible, as I have a nice case and wish to put in the best of the best looking out ahead (dual processors, dual core, AMD, whatever looks the most hopeful for the forseeable future. Not sure if SLI video is the way to go so opinions here would be great.Noel Noel System: 9900X3D Noctua NH-D15 G2, MSI Pro 650-P WiFi, G.SKILL 64GB (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6000, WD NVMe 2Tb x 1, Sabrent NVMe 2Tb x 1, RTX 4090 FE, Corsair RM1000W PSU, Win11 Home, LG Ultra Curved Gsync Ultimate 3440x1440, Phanteks Enthoo Pro Case, TCA Boeing Edition Yoke & TQ, Cessna Trim Wheel, RTSS Framerate Limiter w/ Front Edge Sync. April 27, 200620 yr Apart from MS and a few beta testers, nobody knows for sure what will make FSX tick. Your rig is plenty powerful enough for FS2004 and, if previous releases of FS are anything to go by, should offer at least reasonable performance when FSX comes out. Save your upgrade pennies until then, when you'll know for sure what will make FSX tick.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
April 28, 200620 yr What sort of performance are you getting now with FS9? What things give you buttery smooth flawless performance, and what (specific) things pull your frames down?---Will
April 28, 200620 yr Author Well I've got over 3 years on this current rig so actually I was contemplating transferring everything but the SCSI's to my daughter who needs an upgrade. It is a bad time I agree so far out from FSX and DX10, but if we need to buy a machine for her I'd rather just move parts over to her and keep my nice Lian Li case, tho it's ATX, and my drives, and pick up a cheapie case and SATA drives for her. I could also keep my GF6800 and wait to upgrade the video part of a new system til next year, provided I buy a mainboard that would accomodate next gen GPUs. My current rig runs FS9 just dandy.Anyway, the question posed is still the same: what's the best looking parts for mainboard, CPU (dual processor/dual core?) into the forseable future. I don't think there are any paradigm shifts in processing coming along anytime soon, so other than a few more megahertz for next year's offering, I'm guessing top end parts in the next few months will be quite comparable to what's out next year when FSX comes along.
