July 27, 200619 yr For some long while I have been trying to find a fix for a 'faulty' rudder toggle on the X45 throttle control. In FS2004 when I move the rudder toggle (and even sometimes when I don't touch anything!) the aircraft rudder flicks and jumps about. Naturally causing the aircraft to do very strange things!Only recently I looked at the X45 config window and see that moving the rudder toggle gives a smooth change from one extreme to the other. So the fault must lie between the X45 and FS2004.If I switch to keyboard control, the aircrafts rudder moves slowly from left to right and back as commanded. If anyone can help me work this out I would be most grateful!I am missing my regular flight 'fix' by a good few weeks now!ThanksNigel
July 28, 200619 yr Nigel,I too have the same problem once in a while and it is usually fixed by calibrating the joystick again. The other possibility is that you may need to clean the switch mechanism out with a small can of compressed air. Hopefully this helps out a little.Tony
July 29, 200619 yr Author Tony,Thanks for your reply and advice. But I would ask, do you experience the same symptoms?i.e., that whilst the rudder moves erratically in FS, when viewed in the Saitek config window the rudder control operates smoothly?I will try the recalibration as you suggest, but I will avoid the cleaning for the above reasons and that I might do more harm than good! Thanks againNigel
July 29, 200619 yr Author Tony,I have fallen at the first hurdle!Choosing 'Calibrate joystick' doesn't get me what I was expecting.I assumed I would get a 'move joytsick left. move joystick right move rudder left' etc. I just see a chooser window with the X45 as the only stick and if click OK it just goes back to FS. So I can find no way to allow the full joystick movement and rudder travel to be set.Is this how yours works?ThanksNigel
August 4, 200619 yr If the problem cannot be duplicated outside FS (such as, via the control panel's calibration for Joystick or Saitek's own apps), a fluttering control typically indicates a problem with your joystick mapping or a corrupt FS9.CFG file First, ensure that you do not have two (or more) joystick axes mapped to the same rudder control in your controller settings. FS9 has a nasty habit of automatically mapping axes without letting you know about it. A duplicate mapping with a slight variation in movement by either mapped controllers will cause the flutter. Another thing to check in this area is the sensitivity tab for the axes, another point of occasional odd behavior with FS9 placing arbitrarily low sensitivity and range on some axes. This usually happens if you add or remove controllers to your computer.Second, a corrupt joystick entry in the FS9.CFG file can cause the behavior you describe. For this to go away, delete the CFG file and allow FS to re-create it (this is automatic). However, some people just go ahead and delete the joystick mapping section only in it, which lets you keep the other settings and only re-do the joystick mappings. This is an advanced hack, and may have dire consequences if done improperly. As always, make a backup of the cfg file first. You can locate the CFG file deep in your personal settings sub-folder, not in the FS install folder (I usually do a search on fs9.cfg since I never remember where it's hidden).Hope this helps,EM
August 4, 200619 yr Author Thanks. I tried to login since my first post to say it has been fixed by reassigning the rudder control (even tho' it was there already). However I kept being logged out when I tried to post!ThanksBut what I have now, after resetting FS in trying to cure the rudder issue, is an over sensitive nosewheel steering. I remember there was a parameter in FS9.cfg that I changed to make steering possible but I can't remember it.At the moment I lurch from one side of the taxiway/runway to the other! Once airborne the rudder control is much more gentle.Nigel
August 4, 200619 yr If you happen to have purchased FSUIPC by Pete Dowson, the newest version happens to have a new steering control for when you're on the ground. You can assign a response curve different to this from the main rudder, and I can vouch it works like a dream using my CH Pedals. FSUIPC is highly recommend for this, and other neat features related to control inputs.
