6800 GT driver

Featured Replies

hi again, can anyone say what the best driver is for the 6800 GTi have now 7.7.7.7.date 20/07/2005, which came with the card, is an upgrade isehade so many troubles in the past with graphic drivers i am becomming suspiciousthanks

Driver results are very dependant on the rest of your system, hence vary greatly between us. What's good for one of us may not be good for another. If your current driver is performing acceptably with FS9, then I suggest you leave it be!Gary

Use the new beta 91.45 driver fromwww.guru3d.comAlthough it was intended for the Quadro series, the driver allows for the implementation of Multisampling and Supersampling in addition to the normal anti-aliasing functions and this finally allows 6-series Nvidia cards to AA alpha textures! You only have to look at the exterior of an aircraft or the water or any textures which use alpha texturing in their makeup (like fences or gates) to see the benefit. Most surprisingly is the absence of a substantial fps hit, an in fact the improved clarity and sharpness prompted me to reduce the anisotropic filtering from 8x to 4x as the filtered textures are also AA'd, and this recovered the couple of fps that had been lost.I am surprised this recent finding has not been posted about before in these forums - or any FS forums for that matter. One note of caution: I have had no joy enabling MS and SS in the FSX demo, it just crashes on startup, so create a separate FSX profile from the FS9 one if you plan on using the FSX demo and leave the options DISabled for that.Allcott

Agreeing with Gary, however if you feel that you want to get tweaked gaming drivers you can go here http://www.tweaksrus.com/index.php?option=...d=127&Itemid=41NOTE: these drivers are tweaked and NOT supported by NVIDIA, i have never had problems with XG tweaked drivers but should any bad things happen you get no support from Nvidia and im not responsible either for giving you this link ;)

I have the FX-5900 Ultra AGP Card.... Is there any reason to keep updating the drivers including the recent version?Manny

Manny, golden rule: if its not broken dont fix it. that said. for some users different drivers give increased performance, so you can try getting newer drivers which in some cases also fix some bugs, if then it doesnt work properly u can just go back to your older drivers

Golden rule: If you don't GO, you can't KNOW.If you had to reformat the computer after such a change then you might choose to be reticent, but you can rollback to the previous driver with no problem at all, and install over the top of the previous driver with few, so why WOULDN'T you want to experiment? In any case, these drivers render the argument invalid. You cannot engage transparent AA in anything prior to the 91.xx series drivers, so you have to upgrade if you want to try it out, or take the musch riskier strategy of messing with things Nhancer and RivaTuner, and those things really can leave you needing a reformat if you don't know what you're doing.:)Allcott

I had to reformat and reinstall windows hence my trepidation. But then, that was because I installed nVideo card/driver on top of an ATI driver (the card I had to replace)Prior to that nightmare, I used to keep installing nvdiea drivers one over the other all the time without any problems (on an earlier machine)MannyPS: On my Dell XPS Gen2, I have something called Save (a point) and restore ...whatever that is. I have never used this function. I think its like.. I can save my settings as it is...then install the new driver, and if that messes up..restore it to what it was prior to the latest install.

>hi again, can anyone say what the best driver is for the>6800 GT>i have now 7.7.7.7.>date 20/07/2005, which came with the card, is an upgrade ise>hade so many troubles in the past with graphic drivers i am>becomming suspicious>thanks>Having just spent a weekend in vid driver ####, I thought I'd throw in my $.02, since I've learned a thing or two the hard way. I just moved to 7.7.7.2 (6/15/05) from the nVidia website. I had been using 7.1.somethings from eVGA. I saw a noticeable improvement moving to 7.7.7.2. These are the first drivers written for the 7xxx series cards. The problem I've had is trying to go to later versions. It seems that as they optimize for the newer cards, they "break" the older 6xxx series cards. I tried the 7.7.7.7 drivers, but my FS didn't like them. Everything from the 7.7.7.7 to the latest (9xxx) didn't work very well.I know it sounds crazy, but if you are having problems with 7.7.7.7, you might try moving to an older version that was written for the 6xxx series of cards (7.7.7.2 or earlier). The latest isn't necessarily the greatest, particularly with nVidia, when it comes to older cards.I love nVidia cards, but I think there are drawbacks to unified drivers. Once your card is no longer cutting edge, you should stop moving to newer drivers. I would recommend trying version 7.7.7.2, and working your way back. Make sure you completely remove the old drivers. Boot into safe mode and remove the old drivers from Control Panel with the Add/Remove programs. Then reboot normally. When Windows detects new hardware, just cancel out of it and run the installation program from wherever you saved it.Hope this helps.~EwingKATLMSI K8N Neo2 PlatinumAMD Athlon 64 3200+ 2.0 GHz2GB Corsair PC-3200 512x4 Dual Channel CL2.5 DDR DIMM eVGA nVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT 256MB DDR3Sound Blaster Audigy LSOCZ Powerstream 420WWinXPPro (SP1)

Can you enable Transparent AA in older drivers? No. So that's your argument right out the window. Instead of trying to put people off, why not look at why your card won't take later drivers, instead of concluding that because yours wont nobody elses should?I suspect I could get those later drivers to install properly in about five minutes flat. There have always been issues going from 7x,xx series drivers to 8x.xx series and now 9x.xx series, and it has nothing to do with the card not supporting those drivers, it has to do with the serious changes in software that mark the the change between `7`, `8` and `9` - enough to cause a change in complete model designation for Forceware drivers. In those circumstances, when going from one series to another, I soudl not only uninstall the drivers using the Control Panel, I would run Driver Cleaner Pro to remove all traces, then install the new drivers. In fact, I would probably use the opportunity to install mobo and chipset drivers (up-to-date ones) and also the most recent release of DirectX9 before installing the new GC driver. You simply aren't getting the best IQ and performance out of the card by not trying the newer drivers. If the don't work on your system, then it's fine to say that 77.72 are the best for your system, but that shouldn't be the basis for a recommendation to your fellow simmers based on a lack of experience with newer drivers!Allcott
