FSX: Can't turn off AA on Radeon 9800 pro

Featured Replies

This is an odd sort of question that probably only a handful of people are capable of answering...but has anyone with a Radeon 9800 Pro graphics card or similar noticed that it is impossible to *not* have antialiasing in FSX? Even if I turn it off in the catalyst control panel and in-game, it still remains on. I noticed this problem after I upgraded my drivers to catalyst 6.9.Anyway I just wanted to find a way to turn off antialiasing so maybe I can get some decent performance in the sim, heh.

Nevermind, I figured it out. Apparently the display.cfg has overrides that forces antialiasing to be on when using certain ATI cards. I have no idea why, but taking them out did the trick.

Have not got my pre-ordered FSX retail deluxe package delivered yet, but have been peeking at the trial versions. On my 9800Pro, I am getting some flashing of textures. I had this same problem in FS9 until I went back to earlier drivers. Did you try either trial version and/or Are you seeing any of this in the final release? Thanks:RTH

Speaking of AA - my Athlon 4600+ with GeForce 7300GS just slogs down to nothing when AA is turned on (say, 15-18FPS becomes 4PFS). Is that normal, or peculiar to different cards?

I have noticed that the second demo is pretty much identical in performance to retail, so there is a good bet that you would still experience the problem. I can't say I've seen the flashing texture problem myself though--all of my textures are just blurry :-roll.

Yeah that doesn't sound quite right. I suppose it depends a bit on where you fly, but even on my comp which is quite inferior to yours I never really drop down to 4 fps, even with AA on. You might try using the AA from your control panel instead of in-game (if you haven't already) and not cranking it all the way up, say 4x or thereabouts. You could also try upgrading to the latest drivers.
