October 15, 200619 yr Quick and simple guys.Question: 1. Pentium, AMD hardware specs and FPS within FSX? 2. Nvidia, ATI hardware specs and FPS within FSX?Cheers
October 16, 200619 yr FLAME SUIT ONMy best freind owns computer store and for the last week we have been trying out different hardware combinations.Forget benchmarks and reviews. This is what to my naked eye and the impressions and experince Ive learned since being in flight sims since the first ones came out.The fastest system I put together and ended up buying is this.Asus M2N32 sli deluxe mob,amd fx-62,2 gigs kingston hyperx, raptor 150 hd and a 7900gtx 512 meg vid card. Tweaked and nothing else loaded but fsx.I tried the 7950gtx and IMO saw no difference than the 7900gtx.On a simular system with the intel x6800 I again notice no difference in performance.Bottom line is that even after playing with all my settings,in game, vid card, bios ect and trying all the latest tweaks, autogen, trees, houses, ground textures, fsx.cfg changes ect, I still get hammered around the big airports. Klax, ksfo, katl. FPS is smoooth with no stutters or pauses but it drops into the mid to low teens sometimes. And Im really sick of the blurries which I get and cannot get rid of.PS Im getting a really smooooth ride just about every where I go with instant view changes and incredible graphics. ZERO stutters, chop draw times ect. Most settings except autogen are all the way right with a few like distance, bloom, shadows ect off.Average fps are mid 20s to buried at 30 which Im locked at.With a setup like mine or simular fsx is more than enjoyable but thre are situations where the fps will die. Just like fs9 though you have to make tradeoffs. Enjoy
October 16, 200619 yr You say you are locked at 30....have you played with running it at unlimited? Several people say they are getting better results at unlimited than at locked FPS.
October 16, 200619 yr Sure, a $700-800 CPU should help a lot! Personally I was leaning towards a Core 2 Duo e6700 for my next build. Did you happen to run that in your tests? Sorry if I missed it on this reply. also...I have seen video cards with 1GB of video ram, I know the GeForce 7950 GX2 has it. I was interested in seeing results of something like that with FSX. I read somewhere that it really wouldnt help much in gaming, but FSX is such a beast of a different nature I shutter to call it just A GAME!http://www.lemosnet.com/misc/gpilotsig.jpg
October 16, 200619 yr New rig and total windows install is causing all kinds of problems logging in. Ill figure it out but thats why Im slow to respond.Yes we tried a system with the x6800 but IMO saw no better or worse. I mean what slowed down the fx-62 slowed it down and both appeared to handle each situation the same.I know there is alot of buzz about the benchmarks for the intel spanking the amd but with my little time Ive had with fsx see no difference. And yes I put a 7950 in and saw no difference in fsx. With the money I saved on the fx-62 and 7900gtx, I spent it on additional cooling and a new case.
October 18, 200619 yr If you have the opportunity I would really be interested in seeing how the system performs after some of the available tweaks and texture replacements that are available are done. People with less horsepower than your rig are reporting back with successful results.I'm atleast a month away before I begin to order parts for my next rig and all this is very interesting and helpful.http://www.lemosnet.com/misc/gpilotsig.jpg
October 19, 200619 yr >Quick and simple guys.>>Question: 1. Pentium, AMD hardware specs and FPS within FSX?> 2. Nvidia, ATI hardware specs and FPS within FSX?>>CheersI have a amd 64 4800 x2 (zip zoom fly at $280.00) 2 gigs of corsair ram and geforce 7800 gtx i bought on ebay cheep cause i wanted to save some money for the dx10 vista deal. anyway on the beta with the some of the autogen fixes and with autog set to the right, low x2 water, NO bloom-cause each water texture is written many times, 1 mt terrain, max default atc and airport traffic, flying from logan boston to providence i am steady at 21 fps locked at 21 fps with weather.
