Crash after Memory Upgrade

Featured Replies

Hi,Just upgraded my system from 1 Gig to 2 Gigs. Before the upgrade I didn't have any significant problems with FS2002, FS9, or FSX. After the upgrade, however, now neither FS9 or FSX will load. They start to then stop while loading scenery and the puter locks up so tight I have to just kill power to it.Anybody have an idea why increasing my system RAM would cause this?My system is Athlon 64, 3000; Radeon 9800 Pro ATI card. Thanks for any help.Jim

Hi Jim,I advise you to test your memory with memtest86 (http://www.memtest86.com/.If it is OK, you know at least that there is no hardware problem. If you get errors, you can try and find out which memory module is the problem by trying them one at a time.Good luck,Allard

Found the problem. Upon checking with my system manufacturer, I was told I had ordered the wrong memory strip. It had a cas latency of 3 instead of cas latency 2 which would have matched my existing memory strips. Don't know much about all this but I'll take their word for it.Jim

You may also have to run your memory one speed rate lower than rated, as the earlier A64s had trouble accessing four sticks of memory at rated speed. I had to do this to get my son's computer to run properly (400 down to 333), and there is neglible performance difference in FS (actually in anything we've tried so far). You might want to try this before sending your memory back.Gary
