November 13, 200619 yr I have some Qs about memory. If someone could educate me, I'd appreciate i ver ymuch.I currently run 2 Gigs of Corsair DDR800 PC6400 2 X 1Gig RAM. I have OCed it slightly. If I want to add either 1Gig or 2Gigs...what is the minimum requirement? If I get slower memory for the additional Gig. Would it slow the entire memory speed across all or would it keep my original memory speed and then run the additional memory at the slower speed? and vice versa. If I get better memory would it benefit of not at all?I know.. the 2 slots of memory has to be the same an all because of the dual channel. But should all the 3 or 4 be the same as well?If you are going to add just 1 Gig additional, what would you recommend?Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
November 15, 200619 yr Your BIOS will likely go for the lowest common denominator of all installed your RAM, so match up your RAM specs wherever possible as +/- specs are essentially wasted. Ideally all the same stuff for all four slots, but again different brand names may have slightly different specs for each parameter, and your BIOS will pick the most conservative. If you want another gig, your best bet is to go for 2 x 512M DDR2 800 Corsair. You could always go for a single 1G stick, and save the last spot for another 1G later, but realistically you'll be hard pressed finding a matching stick in more than a few months time, so the matched set thing tends to go out the window.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
