December 2, 200619 yr I noticed there are some newer drivers avaliable to support the 8800 cards...The 97.28's...I was using the 97.02 and wasn't very impressed...Hopefully these will be a little better...http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1524Have Fun...
December 2, 200619 yr Thanks for that Chuck.Did you have time to try it?So..how does it compare with the 97.02?Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
December 2, 200619 yr Just installed it...I think I like it MUCH better!! The FS2004 profile did't work correctly for me..So I created my own by clicking the "Add Profile" button and then pointing it to my FS9.exe...There isn't a profile included for FSX..So I'll do the same for that one...Otherwise...I *Think* I'm going to like them Much Better...Still spankin new to me though..Have Fun!!
December 2, 200619 yr Hi Chuck,With the 97.02s did you have flashing textures? I have been having cases where ground textures have been blinking on and off at low altitudes. I can play other games such as Oblivion with no problems at all for hours, but FS 2004 has the texture issues immediately. The frames and motion have been very fluid, though. Absolutely no stuttering/blurries. I was almost ready to put my ATI card back in because it has no texture issues, but stutters severely. I'll try out these new 97.28 drivers and see how it goes.Kylehttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/ng_driver.jpg Kyle Main Sim PC: P3D v5.2 & MSFS 2020, i9-10850k @ 5.0 GHz, ASUS Maximus XII Hero, ASUS TUF-RTX3080-12G, Dell U3011 30" IPS monitor, G.Skill 32GB 3200 Trident Z 14-14-14, Samsung 512GB 960 Pro NVMe (OS), Samsung 2TB 970 EVO NVMe (Sim), Win 10 Pro 64, Yoko Yoke, Saitex Combat Rudder Pedals, Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant
December 2, 200619 yr Yes!! I hated that...I feel like these are Much better...I still see the occasional flickering mountian off in the distance...But the Flashing/Shimmering seems to be pretty well handeled...Here are the settings I'm using in FS9 so far..Still tinkering a bit..(I made myself a FS9 profile ref: above comments)..Anisotropic filtering: 16xAntialiasing-Gamma correction: OnAntialiasing-Mode: Override any application settingAntialiasing-Setting: 16xQAntialiasing-Transparency: SupersamplingConformant texture clamp: Use hardwareError reporting: OffExtension limit: OffForce mipmaps: TrilinearMulti-display/mixed-GPU acceloration: Single display performance modeTexture filtering-Anisotropic sample optimization: OffTexture filtering-Negative LOD bias: ClampTexture filtering: QualityTexture filtering-Trilinear optimization: OnThreaded optimization: AutoTripple buffering: OffVertical sync: Force offHave yet to try FSX...I havn't got it loaded on this system yet...Hopefully tonight??Hope the drivers work a little better for you than the 97.02's...I think I'm much happier...So far anyhow.. :( Have Fun...
December 3, 200619 yr Finally had a chance to fly with these drivers. They do seem better than the 97.02, but not perfect. The texture flashing is still there, but alot less frequent than before. It really drives me crazy. Ground textures sometimes show up in the sky and the ground flashes white around the Airports on landing. It is very distracting, but I guess I can live with it and hope a future driver cleans up some more.I have yet to try them in FSX as well.Kylehttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/ng_driver.jpg Kyle Main Sim PC: P3D v5.2 & MSFS 2020, i9-10850k @ 5.0 GHz, ASUS Maximus XII Hero, ASUS TUF-RTX3080-12G, Dell U3011 30" IPS monitor, G.Skill 32GB 3200 Trident Z 14-14-14, Samsung 512GB 960 Pro NVMe (OS), Samsung 2TB 970 EVO NVMe (Sim), Win 10 Pro 64, Yoko Yoke, Saitex Combat Rudder Pedals, Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant
December 3, 200619 yr Now I am happy! I tried another flight with these drivers and bumped the AA up to 16xQ. All the texture flashing and corruption dissapeared completely. Before I was runnign at 4x AA. I did a quick test with no AA and 2x AA and both those settings had texture issues as well. With this super 8800GTX card, frames are steady at 30 with 16x AF and 16xQ AA. Image quality is superb.Kylehttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/ng_driver.jpg Kyle Main Sim PC: P3D v5.2 & MSFS 2020, i9-10850k @ 5.0 GHz, ASUS Maximus XII Hero, ASUS TUF-RTX3080-12G, Dell U3011 30" IPS monitor, G.Skill 32GB 3200 Trident Z 14-14-14, Samsung 512GB 960 Pro NVMe (OS), Samsung 2TB 970 EVO NVMe (Sim), Win 10 Pro 64, Yoko Yoke, Saitex Combat Rudder Pedals, Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant
December 6, 200619 yr Anyone out there with an 8800 and FSX want to try a flour bombing mission and tell me how it goes?More often than not, as soon as I pull the trigger to drop the bomb I get a blue screen. This happens both in Flour Power and the "Fly-In" mission. If it doesn't happen on the first pull, the game will run for a while, then pop up the "Loading Textures" screen, make a rude noise, and crash. I haven't had any trouble on the missions where I don't drop a bomb. The crash dumps are about 50/50 in listing n4v_mini.sys and the Realtek HD audio driver. Because of when it happens, my suspicion is with the video driver, though. /Frank
December 17, 200619 yr I am using the latest 8800 driver set as well and I have no problems at all with the flour bombing missions - other than that I suck at it ;)I have noticed as well with the AA settings down around 4x I get ground textures at around 500 ft AGL when loading sometimes. It normally takes about 30 seconds to settle everything back to ground level and then everything is fine from there on. I will try setting the AA levels higher and see if it goes away.Other than that I am very impressed with the vid card combo of 8800GTX and FSX!
December 17, 200619 yr Thanks for checking. After another week of fighting this thing, I think I've got two separate crash issues. The STOP 7F DIVISION_BY_ZERO in flour bombing really is the audio driver - turning off acceleration or muting the audio on the first bomb drop clears things up. The STOP EA THREAD_STUCK_IN_DRIVER after 30 minutes of flying is the one coming from the video driver. I was just mixing up my crashes and the dumps. I haven't noticed any floating ground textures, but I'm turning on the AA through FS, not the nVidia panel. I've had it take a minute or two for the textures to load at full resolution, though (probably because I have the frame rate unlimited). When it's actually working, I've got no complaints - it looks great and has good framerates. I'm just so sick of the crashes I don't feel like playing anymore.Dropping those flour bags one at a time is just too hard. Assign the drop action to a joystick button, set repeat to medium, and drop in ripple mode :-)/Frank
December 19, 200619 yr Hi,Same problem here. I have a 8800GTX and when I try to drop a flour bomb.. PUFF!! Blue Screen of Death... I also didn't have any trouble with other missions. I think it should be reported to NVidia and Microsoft because this is too much for a coincidence.Gon
