January 18, 200719 yr Greetings All,Need some help. I am ready to buy 3 20.1" monitors for the 3head2go.I know it only supports up to 3840x1024. what happens if you turn down a native res. of 1600x1200 to 1280x1024? Bad picture,Distortion? or should I just get 19's thanksAndrew
January 18, 200719 yr I dont think you can change the native resolution. It is defined by the physical number of pixels. Hence all 19 inchers are 1280 by 1024 etc (as far a I know). If you set a 20 inch monitor (1600 x 1200?)to present 1280 x 1024 it will try and present one pixel worth of data cross more than one pixel and be less clear as a consequence.Willing to be corrected on this but it is certainly my experience. It maybe that some monitors are better than others. Some guys on the forum don't seem to have a problem. Regards Howard H D Isaacs
January 18, 200719 yr Are the monitors that you are considering CRTs or LCDs? If they are CRT it is no problem at all. If they are LCD, then many will tell you that the display will be degraded if you run at a non-native resolution. To my (admittedly OLD) eyes, I see no difference. I have been running my 1280x1024 LCD at 1024x768 for a year and I don't notice any problem. I use this LCD monitor to display panels only.I have just decided (as I wrote this reply) to increase the resolution to 1280x1024 to pick up some extra pixels for a panel that I'm designing. If I notice any great difference, I'll post here.R-
January 18, 200719 yr Thank you for the replys..The monitors are Samsung 204B's LCD Their native res is 1600x1200. I want to run them at 1280x1024 and was wondering if it would distort really badBest regardsAndrew
January 19, 200719 yr Running LCDs at non native resolution tends to blur the image, with some resolutions being more noticable than others. Think about it - you are sending 1280 horizontal pixels to 1600 individual dots on the screen and the same concept for the vertical situation. A lot of pixel outputs will go to a single on-screen pixel, but 320 out of 1600 on the horizontal side will have to replicate what their neighboring pixel is displaying.Opinions will vary on the acceptability of running non-native res, but personally the blurriness is too noticable a degradation for me and hence is unacceptable. I'd go for the 19" native res displays.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
