Vista or XP for FSX

Featured Replies

Hi allAs Directx-X is not going to be out for quite a while.and the 8800 GPU are not as fast as the 7900,s XP can support enough RAM to run FSXThanks to the people with the Fixes most of us as FSX running very good.We know that other games are haveing problems with vista and multyplay programs.and the first patch from Aces is for XP.and it is going to take more of our systems resorces to run Vista. So can anyone tell us why we should even consider a change to Vista.RegardsRex

Some of us like the new features and look of Vista.

Hi emkramerGood point.Rex.

Both versions of flight sim run HORRIBLE in vista. Nvidia's vista drivers are also bordering on criminal. They are supposed to be releasing final drivers within a week and if they aren't 1000x better than what they have now then there is no way I will be running vista any time soon. Nvidia is really throwing a wrench into the upgrade plans of many people right now. Let's not even get into the DRM nightmare that vista is shaping out to be. Atm there is no compelling reason to ever upgrade to vista, at least until crysis and the fsx dx10 patch come out.________________________________________________________________________________________________Intel D975XBX2 'Bad Axe 2' | Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 3.20Ghz | 2 GB Super Talent DDR2 800 @ 893Mhz | Big Typhoon VX | eVGA 8800GTS @ 575/900 | Seagate 2x 320GB SATA RAID-0 | OCZ GameXStream 700W | Creative X-Fi | Silverstone TJ-09BW | Matrox Triplehead Setup

Rex, Your question is nearly identical to comments that were posted about a week ago. Check out this thread http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...d=382980&page=3 for the discussion. There are some good points there as well.

Hi dlarman. Thanks for the link. The trouble with AVSIM is that it is so popular if you miss a couple of days the posts are gone, anyway I agree with him.Vista next year at this time Hopefuuly. All the bestRex

>Hi all>As Directx-X is not going to be out for quite a while.and the>8800 GPU are not as fast as the 7900,s Don't know where this idea that the 8800 isn't as fast as a 7900 came from. The 8800 kicks the 79xx's butt hands down with DX9 apps. In fact the 8800 also kicks dual 7950s in SLI right down the street with those apps that can use SLI (i.e. not FS).RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VSantiago de Chile

I have both and trust me, the 8800's trounce the 7 series cards, even in SLI.-Paul

Hi paulYes I was going by what I had read and by the core clock speeds,But I always take note of what experiance tells me.RegardsRex

Hey Rex,Just go out and read some of the review on these babies and you will see what we are saying. I have the XFX OC'd versions running at 630/2000 instead of 575/1800. When you slip them into SLI for BM purposes my FX-57 hung with any C2D with a 7 series video card so my video made up for weaker cpu... The 8800 series cards are absolute beasts and not only do you gain FPS with them but you gain them running everything at 16x AA/16x AF which produces the smoothest most unimaginable FS environment to date... Downside is you need a quad SLI power supply to run two of them, they tend to run a bit hot, you can't get the DangerDen coolers anywhere and they are BIG... BTW, they aren't cheap but what bleeding edge technology is? Oh and you NEED a processor that can keep up. MY FX is probably a little behind my video cards for the first ever...-Paul

Ohh and let's not forget their drivers are either a) MIA or :( pure garbage. Other than that these cards do rock the house. I also have one machine with a 7900gt and another with an 8800 and there is no comparison. The 8800 is more than twice as fast in some games and benchmarks and at least 50% faster in all others. Now if nvidia could only get a handle on their drivers and their atrocious customer support...
