February 3, 200719 yr OK.. I have 2Ggig of Corsair 5-5-5-18 memoryCORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retailhttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820145034I need to add atleast another Gig. if not an additional 2Gigs. I have also Over clocked my PC.The Q is, would I be better off getting an identical pair of 2 Gigs or a faster 2 X 512Ggigs? I am not hoping that my system to run faster.... I just want to protect the overall memory latency I currently have would not be slower. Would adding more meory create problems for me or not? Thanks.Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
February 3, 200719 yr Definately get an identical pair to what you have. Your motherboard will be happier (especially with overclocking) and the performance difference compared to faster RAM would be minimal. Case in point on the performance side is a few weeks ago when I tried changing memory settings from 5-5-5-18 to 4-4-4-9 (the lowest I gould get them), there was no discernable difference in 30 second average measured FPS in either FS9 or FSX across a multitude of saved scenarios.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
February 3, 200719 yr Hiya Manny...Yeah...Agreed...Defiantly match up with your existing RAM...Get another 2gb kit same as you have now...Have Fun!!
February 7, 200719 yr chuckcouldn't help notice you're running a raid set.does it make much difference to load and stutter times within FSx?Ian
February 8, 200719 yr I've run both with and without RAID 0 with both FS9 and FSX. No discernable difference. I reckon you'd get much better milage from getting one of those Raptor drives.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
February 8, 200719 yr I think I'd be inclined to agree with Gary's comment's...My HD Tach results show a performance advantage to Raid0...But overall...FS wise...I cant jump up and down saying I see a *World* of performance difference...I have been running Raid0 for a good while now...Mostly with some variant of a Raptor Drive...I'll continue to do so...I just feel every little bit helps...And it all adds up...Is it worth it?? Well.......I think a fast drive is "Worth It"...I'd categorize a Raid Array as a personal decision...Have Fun...
February 8, 200719 yr Author I believe RAID 0 helps a lot for FS9 for phototextures like Megasceneries. It helps with reducing the blurries. But it may not be for FSX. FSX phototextrue sceneries like Megasceneries work differently. It doesn't need the kind of seek and load like FS9. I found that FSX does not seek HD that much for Megascenery X.And like you said Chuck, It cannot be bad for you. :)Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
