March 1, 200719 yr Moderator OK - time for my annual brain dead question :)I have an Intel 915GAV mobo with on board sound. In playiong around with the acceleration in DXDIAGS I can hear no difference in FSX between no acceleration and full acceleration. I have excellent hearing so that's not the problem. Can someone explain what difference should be audible with these changes, if any? From what I understand, no accxeleration of onboard sound frees CPU cycles for FSX.Thoughts?Thanx,Vic Visit the Virtual Pilot's Centerwww.flightadventures.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/ RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
March 1, 200719 yr "From what I understand, no accxeleration of onboard sound frees CPU cycles for FSX."LOL !! :-xxrotflmao - With you, not at you ...Talk about looking in every nook and cranny for a couple more frames !! I hear ya. ;)Think of it as a driver compatability slider. You wont "hear" sound quality changes, but you would here custom hardware specific features drop out (if they were available). I explain:Left or 0 = Forces emulation of everythingNext - basic hdw sound, but no hardware accelleration of DirectSoundNext - hardware acceleration of directsound, but not hardware specific extentions/effects (like hdw Spacialization, enviroment features etc)Right - The full monty, hardware acelleration and hardware specific extentions/effectsSo you have a game that pops and crackles, drop it down a notch andthat usually helps. I would think the sound in FSX is pretty basic compared to like, Splinter Cell or something like that with full EAX effects bla bla.It has no impact on increasing FSX frames though .. he he ;)Garett

March 2, 200719 yr Garett is right. IF FS supported advanced sound effects like EAX then the slider would make a difference. As it is, it doesn't, so moving the slider to the left can solve problems rather than reduce actual sound quality. At least in theory. You won't however, save any CPU cycles by moving a DirectX sound slider. DirectX sound is integrated as part of the OS and is an `on-demand` system, so if the game doesn't ask for it, it won't get it. At least in theory!Allcott
