March 8, 200719 yr I know I shouldn't have deleted a folder titled C:programfilesDVD..... a few days ago I may have deleted a folder that I thougt had some old try ware software.Well.. None of my DVDs play on my PC Anymore. I even tried downloading the latest Windows Media player. I get a pop up saying"Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD because a compatible DVD decoder is not installed on your computer"I don't believe I bout any special DVD software before... And I am pretty sure, I have played regular DVD movies on this PC that I built.I am talking plain vanila playback of regular DVD Movies. Hmmm...Any ideas?Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
March 8, 200719 yr Author Well.. How far back can I go.. I think I deleted it about 2 weeks ago. But I am still not sure if that was it. Also I simply deleted the directory instead of uninstalling the software.BTW What happens to addons I have installed since then? I did a big Horizon England scenery install. March 8, 200719 yr Author I restored the system to the day before I deleted some folders. But it still wouldn't work.Infact it wouldn't even work on my Home movies on DVD.Maybe I never could play regular DVDs on this PC. I have 3 PCs and this is the latest I built around Nov. Maybe I am losing it. :)Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
March 8, 200719 yr Have you tried deleting the DVD player in Device Manager and rebooting to allow the system to reinstall the hardware?Jim
March 10, 200719 yr Author Hi Jim,I tried that today.. It didn't work. I think.by default the winXP or the DVD player drivers do not come with the Codec software. I may have to purcchase it i believe.Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
