PSU for X1950 Pro 512MB

Featured Replies

Greetings,I recently ordered a SAPPHIRE 100171L X1950PRO 512MB AGP card and I'm not sure if my current PSU will be able to supply the power it requires. This is my current PSU:1: 450W ATX 12V ver 1.1 http://home.comcast.net/~naresh.k.gurung/450W.jpgThis is an extra one I have that is not yet installed.2: 580W ATX 12V ver 2.0http://home.comcast.net/~naresh.k.gurung/580W.jpgEven though my second PSU is 580W, it only supplies 19A on 12V rail. I believe the X1950Pro's minimum PSU requirement is 450W 30A on 12V. My installed 450W PSU supplies 28A on 12V.I am little confused here and do not know what to do. I would very much appreciate if you could help me make decision here? :DShould I use the 450W PSU or 580W PSU when I get my new video card? Or do I have to buy a new PSU? I already have 3 brand new PSU's in my closet!! Don't ask me why. :DThank you very much.Danzian

Yup - you're looking to spend just a bit more. . . Try trading in the spare ones..Soooo.. I'm using the EnerMax EG565P-VE FMA. It was $95 (Can), and is working just fine, with a total of 34amps/+12v. 2 fans.http://www.enermax.com/english/product_Display1.asp?PrID=72Hope this helps,Regards,

Yep, I think you should get something beefier also. There is a really good thread on the 3d guru forums about these cards. Check out their ATI Video Card section.I bought the biggest, baddest PSU I could find and I have not had many of the problems that people are reporting (yes, I know my PSU is overkill).

Thank you PJ and Duckbilled for your insights. Yes, I think I have to get a more powerful PSU. That has to wait for another week when I get my weekly paycheck. :DHave a good week.Danzian
