Problem with AA on X1900XTX

Featured Replies

Hello,I've seen the 7.4 problem, but mine is not connected to that!I am using 7.3's and it appears that my AA simply won't start sometimes - better said, I just bought a 32" Samsung LCD, which I have connected as a 2nd monitor (but not using it for FS), and the problem is, if desktop is extended, AA in FS won't start. To "reenable" it again, I have to remove the 2nd desktop and reboot the system. Changing modi in Catalyst panel doesn't help.Anyone having similar issues?EDIT: Just did the test using 6x AA. It works! Going back to 4x, again doesn't work. Only after reboot 4x works.EDIT2: Forget everything. Went back to 7.1, issue resolved. I think both 7.3 and 7.4 are bad.

"Went back to 7.1, issue resolved."My impression is that the 7.1 WHQL driver set are the best drivers for my X1950 Pro 512MB PCIE card. I've had no issues with them since installing shortly after their release and XP has never been more stable. For the first time in years I see no good reason to change. Also, I suspect that these were the last optimized for use with XP before Vista appeared on the scene. However, that's only speculation on my part ;)Edit: I should say that I did have problems with the Omega variants of this set coupled with an AGP X800 XL (SmartGart wouldn't work for some reason, but did with an earlier set off the installation CD). However, following a good clear out, I went back to the 6.9s (which I found to be a little unstable) and then subsequently tried again by installing ATI's 7.1 drivers with my new PCI-E GPU. Since then I have never looked back.Mike

I didn't even install old CCC, only installed 7.1s over the 7.3s and all is well!I think there should be a sticky concerning this!

I think there's a lot to be said for just installing the drivers and Ray Adams' ATT.Mike

ATT is ok I guess, but somehow I don't like it...

"ATT is ok I guess, but somehow I don't like it..."What don't you like, Word Not Allowed? Perhaps I can help.I find it to be very user friendly. For example, the ability to create 3D profiles and switch back and forth as needed by accessing the ATT icon's menu options in the system tray is, for me, very convenient. Certainly it's GUI is perhaps not as attractive as CCC, but then if you set up Task Manager to show Peak Mem Usage for each Process I think you will find that ATT uses far less than CCC. It also allows additional flexibility in that you can create individual game profiles. These settings are implemented when you click on the Game's ATT icon and revert back to your desktop settings on quitting the game.Regards,Mike

Back then when I was using ATT, I was overclocking all my components, including GPU. That is where ATT didn't work well. I thought already many times to dump CCC and use ATT instead, but I always found myself going back to CCC. This memory usage, I can't say I really care for that. Never had an issue with memory, not enough or so...Profiles? Hm, neat feature. But I don't change my AA and AF that frequently. Besides, I absolutely don't like an extra icon in my bar. That's about it. :)

As for the AA problem, I too have it in 7.4, with 7.3 I also have it in crossfire mode unless I disable the Catalyst AI option.Intel C2D E67002GB 667Mhz MemDual ATI X1950XTX Crossfires.

"I absolutely don't like an extra icon in my bar."Me neither. Below are 3 captures from my current desktop. I have a pretty complex setup preferring to keep most links to programs as part of the menu structure. These are held in broad categories like 'Flight', Players and Viewers, Image Editing and Manipulation, Games, Audio and Video, Astronomy and Space, etc, etc.The Env and GPU temps are displayed (my choice) by ATT. It also records the max temps reached each session (very useful).http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/170718.jpgThe following 2 images serve as a brief glimpse into what ATT (ver. 1.2.6.964) offers:The 'Gaming and Simming' Profile has AA = 4x and AF = 16x as well as all the optimized settings for my (PCI-E)Sapphire ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 512MB.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/170719.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/170720.jpgMike
