New problem with AGP card: ATI RADEON 9550

Featured Replies

My nVidia card crapped out this week.I wasn't about to update my whole system just yet, so I went looking for an AGP replacement. The ONLY one I could find around here was an ATI Radeon 9550.It installed fine (XP professional), BUT.......for whatever reason, I find FS2004 is too dark. With the nVidia, I had cranked up the brightness and gamma, and it was fine. With the RADEON, when I crank up the brightness and gamma, the splash screen for FS2004 comes up "bright", but when it finally gets into the sim, it reverts to "dark". It flickers bright only when I click the mouse, or hit the ALT key, but always reverts to its standard dark.Is there some trick to get FS2004 to behave with this card????Running XP pro, 1gb memory, all MS updates. "Latest" 9550 drivers from the ATI.AMD site ver. 8.360.0.0. dated 2007-3-14Thanks.Art

Art, My main Ati card, 9800xt failed and now I'm using my backup ati, a lowly 9200se but no problems with either one as far as controlling brightness. I ditched the cat control panel and use the old ati control panel which allows me to adjust the brightness, cont and gamma as I see fit.Maybe you could put up some shots of your settings and the forum can take it from there.Douglasps: this post might be moved to the hardware forum.

I used to use a the Radeon 9200 card and although considered a very basic card i had no problems at all with it.I am currently using a G-force 6600 (I think)and although by no means a super stonker not a bad card but to be honest cant really see any significant improvements over my humble 9200.Wish i could help you more.I hope you get it sortedcheers Andy

Have you correctly un-installed the Nvidia driver, (driver-cleaner or similar program) ran optionally CCleaner afterwards. Have fs9, rebuild its FS9.CFG file, and re installed directX?.

Good News. Sorry for the trouble. The ATI card sets the gamma and brightness SEPARATELY for "windowed" mode, and for full-screen mode. Which I was not expecting... ...but I finally found their "control centre" wizard, tweaked the settings, and all seems reasonably well, now....
