June 17, 200718 yr Hi Guys, ExtremeTech tested Company of Heroes, which Relic Entertainment has just patched for compatibility with DX10. http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,2143672,00.aspGiven the benefits claimed for DX10, surely we could expect SOME INDICATION of a significant improvement in graphics quality or frame rates? But no, the actual results were:1. Despite a shopping list of claimed graphics improvements, to the eye the difference was barely discernible to non-existent. 2. Frame rates of the DX10 version were ONE THIRD of the DX9 version. Now this is a patch, not a game designed from the ground up for DX10 like Crysis. Hang on! That's exactly the situation with FSX! ACES are not planning to totally re-write FSX, they're just going to release a patch. I think it's time to re-assess what can be achieved with a DX10 patch of FSX; those infamous 'artist's impressions' should now be buried, once and for all.Go on, tell me I'm wrong...Please!Cheers,Noel. 11th Gen i9-11900K @ 3.5GHz | nVidia GeForce RTX 3080 | Corsair 64 GB RAM | Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB | Asus 27" RoG G-Sync Track IR5 | Thrustmaster Warthog | CH Products Pedals
June 17, 200718 yr I had a feeling that the DX10 wasn't going to change the graphics much. Eight times performance improvement ROFLOL; I still remember some guy saying that in the interview. Indeed, 2/3 loss makes more sense to me. Yup, like I excepted it, DX10 was simply some random API to make you buy Vista and an expensive video card. My trusty AIW X800XT does the job !
June 18, 200718 yr Well....I think all of us who have DX10 capable cards will just wait and see rather than speculate and and wring our hands. My nVidia 8800GTX provides much improved performance in DX9, over any other card I owned, even if DX10 isn't all it's claimed to be!I'll hold off on any judgements and installing Vista, until I see some actual reports of FSX and DX10.Pete S.
