What's best way to reinstall FSX

Featured Replies

I just built a new system and am having very long load times when I hit the Fly Now button. During the load process FSX says that it has loaded 100%, but then just sits there for about 2-3 minutes, and then the flight begins. I am thinking of uninstalling and then reinstalling FSX.First, does a reinstall seem like a practical solution to try to eliminate the issue? And if not, any suggestions.Second, if i do reinstall FSX, are any special steps or precautions that I need to take to assure that nothing goes wrong along the way? I am planning on defragging the hard drive after the uninstallation. Also, how would I make sure to get rid of any remnants of FSX during the unistallation.Last, if I do a reinstall, is it best to place FSX in a separate partition from the Operating System or in the same one?By the way, I have the following key components:Vista Home Premium 32 bitIntel e6750EVGA 680i motherboard2G OCZ pc6400 ramNvidia 8500 GT video card (Just a placeholder until I get an 8800)Maxtor 320G Hard Drive

>Last, if I do a reinstall, is it best to place FSX in a separate>partition from the Operating System or in the same one? It's best to install FSX on its own drive. If you do not have another drive, you will get better performance if you do not partition your harddrive (one partion for your entire 320GB).Can't help you with the slow loading issue....never had any such problem.

That issue caused problems when UTX was first released. Shutting off or even disabling the virus scanner improved the situation.Regards,Jim Karn

Thanks for the replies. I did not have a virus scanner running at the time, however, for some reason, the problem is gone. Go figure, but I am not complaining, FSX now loads a flight in about 30 seconds.Question about the disabling the virus scanner. Does having the virus scanner off pose any risks if a person is flying multiplayer or using a program like Tileproxy? Thanks.
