FSX ram

Featured Replies

I need some help increasing my performance in FSX. Here are my following specs. Do think increasing my ram will do it?Abit AW9D-MaxCore 2 Duo E6600 @ 2.5Ghz (overclocked a little)2Gb Duel channel Gskill F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ 4-4-4-12 2.0v~2.1vXFX Geforce 8800 GTS 640mbWindows XP SP2FSX AccelerationI have all the sliders up except cloud distance, traffics, and autogen density. Autogen is on normal. Ground shadows off. With the stock aircraft when I fly out of KMGC I might get 20-25 FPS. I baught PMDG 747X last night. Took a flight to KORD. I was getting 5 FPS by DH.I see so many guys getting crisp screenshots. Mine are edwards are not very good. Here is a link to my webspace with some screenshots.http://www.sublimeparadise.com/fsxpics/fsx1.JPGhttp://www.sublimeparadise.com/fsxpics/fsx2.JPGhttp://www.sublimeparadise.com/fsxpics/fsx3.JPGhttp://www.sublimeparadise.com/fsxpics/fsx4.JPGI remember FS9 had bad performance too. I added more ram and in the LAS area I got a whole lot better performance by just going from 1gb to 2gb.William

2GB with XP is plenty. I have 3GB, and rarely does XP dip into the third GB - certainly not by using just FSX and addons alone. Upping your RAM will make no FPS improvement.I do have a free performance boost that you may want to try. Set the framerate limit to unlimited and see what it does for you. It nearly doubles my frame rate. Also, that first shot looks like you have bloom turned on. Bloom is a known FPS killer, so try turning that off.Edit: Oh, and try overclocking a little higher. 3.0GHz should be east, even if you only have stock cooling.Gary

I like the look of the bloom. I dont really want turn it off. I had my system overclocked to 3.0ghz a few days ago before I got my 8800 GTS. Now I added the card and cannot get it overclocked past 2.5ghz stable. I can get it to 2.7ghz but its not stable and crashes shortly after loading xp. When overclocked to 2.6ghz it is stable until into fsx. After a few minutes of sitting there in fsx it crashes. I cannot get it to even boot at anything past 2.7ghz.Will try unlimited but doubt it will help. Thanks

>I like the look of the bloom. I dont really want turn it>off. >Ok then that's the main problem like Gary said...seriously, bloom nearly cuts FPS in half.As a test, lock your FPS at 15, and be sure to set AA and AF in FSX, ie check AA and select filtering Anisotropic...Then see what happens...

Thanks that does make a lot of difference. I get 30 - 40 FPS at edwards. The runway lines now look a little better, but I still seen some pics where they are solid dark black and crisp. They dont fade off like my FSX. Do they have a higher resolution and less need for anti alais?I been reading a little about dx10. Do you guys get a hit in fps with dx10? I hear bloom doesnt have a problem in dx10 like dx9.Thanks a ton (Bloom off , Sir yes Sir)

One thing (well it varies from person to person) is that locking your FPS at an acceptable value does help. For instance, let's say you run unlimited FPS and achieve 30-40.... During that time do you ever notice FPS lower than 30? What I do is lock at the lowest observable value. Say once your FPS dipped to 25... then lock at 25. As far as crisp black lines....it is very easy zoom out and make the blurries appear to go away hehe. Of course one can always edit screenshots too.... Here's two from my system....slightly sharpened hehehttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/179904.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/179905.jpg
