January 3, 200818 yr Hi all,I'm looking at a temporary replacement for my Radeon 9250 until I get the new computer. I had a couple of questions concerning AGP:1) I know what AGP Aperture Size is and I have it set at 128 MB (options are 64, 128, 256). Does it steal or share from the main RAM, example I don't want those computer scanners (like Nzone/System Requirements Lab) to tell me that I all of a sudden have 384 MB of RAM, 128 MB less than I have installed, I still want Windows to make full use of 512 MB of RAM, is this possible?;2)I have an Intel D850MV mobo, and it's AGP 4X, however I'm looking at an AGP 8X card. Will this work out? Thanks very much in advance.BoeingGuy Regards, BoeingGuy ASUS P5E X38 | Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 3.2 GHz on 1600 MHz FSB (400x8) | 4 GB DDR2-800 RAM | EVGA GeForce 8800 GT Superclocked @ 679/979 | 320 GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 RPM HD
January 3, 200818 yr You are not saying what the video card memory is ? 64,128 or 256.It is likely 128. Anyways, you should be aware that the 9250 is a very inefficient 3d card with a memory bandwidth of 6.2gb/sec. So any upgrade starting at a 7600 level for Nvidia or 9800 level for ATI will improve FS (likely FS9). AGP 4x or 8x should not make a worthwhile change. However, the agp aperture will. And increasing its size will steal RAM ( I think, if I remember well). And in your case at 512meg you don't want to steal any RAM. A good middle value for the AGP aperture is 64meg and that is for FS9. All in all an ATI 1650pro 256meg agp8x would be a good upgrade for the time being. They sell around at 100 and are still available. I don't think I would buy anything at more than 150 considering the situation. And yes an agp8x will work with an agp4x board.Pierre Pierre I9 14900K 5.5 64gb ram 6800 RTX5090 Asus Strix Gaming E
January 3, 200818 yr Author Thanks for your reply, I'm looking at two cards:1)GeForce 6800 XT 256 MB DDR2 AGP-$75; or2)e-GeForce 7600 GT Superclocked 512 MB DDR2 AGP-$170, $140 after rebates.Thanks for the reply again, I was wondering about the AGP question.BoeingGuy Regards, BoeingGuy ASUS P5E X38 | Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 3.2 GHz on 1600 MHz FSB (400x8) | 4 GB DDR2-800 RAM | EVGA GeForce 8800 GT Superclocked @ 679/979 | 320 GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 RPM HD
January 3, 200818 yr I'd go for the 6800. I had a 6600GT and replaced it with a 7600. Wasn't worth the trouble and it went back. I expect the 6800 would actually outrun a 7600. That 6800 was (is!) a very good card.BYW, where did you see that 6800 for 75 bucks (US?). Gotta pal that needs one.
January 3, 200818 yr Author I saw one on the Micro Center website: http://microcenter.com/single_product_resu...duct_id=0259587This is AGP 6800 XT 256 MB.Also, would a 6800 outrun a 7600? According to this website:http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=441&card2=435#The 7600 slightly outruns the 6800, unless you unlock the 6800's pipelines.But thanks for the suggestions!BoeingGuy Regards, BoeingGuy ASUS P5E X38 | Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 3.2 GHz on 1600 MHz FSB (400x8) | 4 GB DDR2-800 RAM | EVGA GeForce 8800 GT Superclocked @ 679/979 | 320 GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 RPM HD
