January 4, 200818 yr Every time I go into the Task Manager, My CPU Usage is always at 100%, NEVER lower. PF usage is always around the 860 MB mark. I've noticed my regular programs like Firefox keep freezing, and I always have to reset my computer to get it to respond again. Is my computer nearing its end? Is there a solution to free up the CPU? January 4, 200818 yr Author Thanks for the replies, even when the PC is just sitting idle, CPU Usage stays at 100%, no matter what I do, and my computer seems 10 times slower.Hopefully I'll get a new computer soon. Thanks,BoeingGuy Regards, BoeingGuy ASUS P5E X38 | Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 3.2 GHz on 1600 MHz FSB (400x8) | 4 GB DDR2-800 RAM | EVGA GeForce 8800 GT Superclocked @ 679/979 | 320 GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 RPM HD
January 4, 200818 yr virus/Malware?!Bring up the task manager, Processes tab... find the process running high on the CPU, and do a little google search to see what it may be.If the computer is sitting idle, and you're not running programs, there is NO reason for it to be pegged at 100% unless something is running in the background. The question remains - is it something you want running or not?If you DON'T see any process running high, you may want to do a google search on CPU Utilization and your video card. I had a video card + motherboard incompatability issue a few years ago that exhibited itself with pegged CPU use and sluggish performance. Either way, something's fishy...-Greg
January 5, 200818 yr >Bring up the task manager, Processes tab... find the process>running high on the CPUI've had this high CPU usage being caused by a utility listed as only 817K in the processes, I think because it was malfunctioning. I would use msconfig to run without non-essential startup processes, and if the cpu usage is normal, add back a few at a time to locate the culprit. Art
