Overclocking from within the Operating System

Featured Replies

My Gigabyte motherboard CD has a utility program (Easytune 5pro) that allows overclocking from within the Operating System. I was wondering if anyone here has use this and could tell me their experience with it. Good or Bad.Frank

From ExtremeTech.com:"First off, let's get this out of the way: There are utilities that allow you to overclock a CPU through a Windows desktop.Ignore them. Many times we have used such a utility, rebooted, and encountered a machine unable to POST. Do your overclocking through the BIOS setup utility. Trust us.I happen to agree with this, and I am going to OC through the BIOS when I build my new system.

Agree.Same here. Got a Gigabyte board too. Their tools suck. Sometimes it wants to reboot to take over the settings sometimes not. Most of the time the settings are lost after a reboot.I OCed my system through the BIOS.Alex

Avoid EasyTune at all costs, from experience. If you want stats, use RivaTuner and enable the hardware plug-ins.I wonder why they even bother with it, it does nothing but crash, sometimes taking the O/S with it and making the computer unusable without a reset.Set the BIOS in manual mode, especially since you can save/restore multiple profiles (on some models).Etienne

OC thru the bios. The link below may help you since the manual leaves out this: It should be noted that Gigabyte still requires users to press a combination of keys (control-f1) on the keyboard to allow the memory settings to be accessed. http://www.legitreviews.com/article/513/3/CraigLian-Li PC60-B Case Corsair HX Series CMPSU-620HX 620W Power Supply Gigabyte P35 DS3R Intel Core2Duo E6850 @ 3.3 GHz Arctic Cooling Freezer7 Pro Crucual Ballistix 2GB PC2-8500 (DDR2-1066) EVGA 7950 GT OC 512 Mb Plextor PX-810SA/SW-BL 18X SATA DVD Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/sec Seagate Barracuda 7200.10250 GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/sec
