Tracker IR or 3 monitors?

Featured Replies

Can anyone advise me on which would be best (to use outside left&right views)..getting Tracker IR or using a 3 monitor system with something like Maxivista or wideview? Just wondering if anyone has tried both and which seems to give the best immersion. Thanks for any feedback.

Well, I not really sure that anyone is going to tell you which is best. Using a three screen setup such with something such as a Matrox TripleHead2Go is going to give you a wrap around effect and a wider field of view. With the exception that the monitor bezels break up the effect (not appealing to me).The TrackIR really has nothing to due with getting a wider field of view within FSX. It allows for you head movements to be tracked. So, you can look around in the FSX enviroment by moving your head (looking around) just as you would do in real life. Which is much more natural than using a hat switch to pan your view.Since, a 3 monitor setup is not appealing to me I opted for a Hanns-G 28" LCD, and changed the setting WideViewAspect in the fsx.cfg file to True. This gives me a very nice wide field of view from within FSX. I also happen to use the TrackIR and have for quite some time. Once you fly a sim with a TrackIR more than likely you will never fly without it again. Not knowing what you are planning on spending for your investment, I would highly recommend that you also look into a one monitor wide screen solution. No matter which setup (3 monitors or 1) you decide to go with, I would also recommend that you purchase a TrackIR. You may want to get the TrackIR before doing anything else. You may find that the immersion that it adds to the sim will negate the need for a purchase of a new/multiple monitors to obtain a wider field of view.

Since you can look around your virtual world, the next logical step is being able to feel it. http://www.simhq.com/_technology2/technology_107a.htmlhttp://www.fspilotshop.com/product_info.ph...products_id=264

Thanks for the replies sargeski & Lith1um. That's good information.I think I'll go with the TrackIR, and definately check out the Buttkicker Gamer. Just curious, what does the WideViewAspect=true do in FSX config? Thanks again.

If you have a wideview aspect monitor (16x10 or 16x9), it widens the field of view.

I'm running FS9 on triple monitors with an antique AMD XP2200 and GeForceFx 5200 cards. It gives me a true 180

When you do the bezel correction in Panel ConfigI'm interested in this little snippet of information.. Can you point me to where I can get instructions on this?ThanksSimpit

Simpit- I posted a "How to" on this last June/July?. Should have the info you wish.Do an Advanced Search on VIEW_FORWARD . Don't forget the underscore. You should find a thread started by Kimchoc titled "triple monitor setup help please". or look for topic # 27159. In this thread you should find the details. Not difficult. Happy to answer questions.Alex Reid
