Help, on newly built computer

Featured Replies

HelloI just built my first computer using new and old parts. One of the old parts was the Hard Drive. I installed a new mother board and chip and now it won't boot up unless (Tech Support suggests) that I reformat the HD with a clean install. I don't want to do that as I have some really important data on the Hard Drive. Is there anyway to use a boot disk and keep my data on the HD?What (if any) are the possibily solutions? Thanks and regards,Ed

Ed, Using your HD on the new motherboard is most likely not going to work. (http://ask-leo.com/can_i_use_my_old_hard_drives_with_a_new_motherboard.html The best thing to do is to purchase a new Hard Drive (they are pretty inexpensive right now) and reload the OS. Then connect the old HD and get whatever files you need off of it and reformat. Hopefully your old system is still functioning so you can always back up the data prior to moving it. Your old drive would be looking for registry settings, drivers, etc. the were unique to your original MOBO. You can Google it for more info. What is the old mobo and the new one? Is it a PATA or SATA drive?CraigLian Li PC 65B CaseCorsair HX Series CMPSU-620HX 620W Power SupplyPlextor PX-810SA/SW-BL DVD/CDGiagabyte GA-P35-DS3RCrucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500)Arctic Freezer 7 ProIntel E6850 Core 2 Duo 3.0GHz 4M shared L2 Cache @ 3.6 GHzEVGA 7950GT KO 512mb 169.21_forceware whqlSeagate Barracuda 7200.10 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATASeagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATAWinXP Pro SP2
