New Computer

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, my question today is about hardware. I want to buy a high-end computer which I want to use only for flightsimming. I imagine to add 3 screens (not Matrox Triple Head) but one 24" screen for the cockpit and 2 20" screens for Instruments like GPS, Throttle Quadrant etc. What kind of configuration/components would you propose? And one question more: Should I take Windows XP or Vista? I`m using FS2004 at the moment but there should also be an option to use FSX later on. But as far as I know, the performance of flightsimming is better with XP then with Vista (!?!) What solution would you propose? Thanks in advance for yr assistance.Guenther

No disrespect, but have your read this forum? This question has been answered several times over... just read what is there!

I have both XP and Vista on Dual Boot and use XP more than 90% of the time. For the 3 monitor you're proposing you'll need 2 Graphics cards and a really decent MB and CPU combo to produce all those pixels (1920x1200 + 2x1600x1200). A good Dual core will meet your needs but you may wish to go Quad for future-proofing, personally I run a Dual X6800 and twin 8800GTX on a 680i MB. I've had the hardware over a year now so can't relly advise on how good the latest hardware is!2 x 20" is a lot of real-estate for your ancilliary instruments.Have you thought about using 2 x 24" monitors instead of 2x20" + 1x24", this would then drop your requirement for 2 graphics cards down to one. You could then use the extra cash on improving the MB/CPU/RAM spec, which will give you more FPS.Are you planning on self-build or system purchase? What is your budget?RegardsJim
