March 3, 200818 yr Good afternoon,I just purchased a Epson Home Cinema 720 and will be using it as my main window, all i want to show on it is the scenery. On my monitor I want to see my cockpit, GPS and ATC transmissions. What do you recommend? I use display 1 as the projector or the monitor? As much as possible I don't want to see blue bars on my large image.Playing on a 6ft wide screen is gonna be kick ####!!!Thanks!Marc P
March 3, 200818 yr FS9 or FSX?What Graphics card are you using and what is the resolution of your monitor? If you've got an nVidia card I would suggest combining your Monitor and Projector in Vertical Span mode, then you'll be able to run in Full Screen and won't have to put up with the Blue Menu bar.Jim

I have a Mitsubishi XD490U on a 9 foot screen and it's great! I don't have a second monitor, and fly exclusively in Virtual Cockpits in Full Screen mode in Widescreen. It's a great combination. One problem with projectors, is you have to replace the lamp so often, and yours has a very short lamp life 1700 hrs. It may seem like a lot, but it's not. My previous projector a Mitts XD300U had a 4000 hr life span and I still needed to replace it twice a year. This one is rated at 5000hrs. It wouldn't be bad except, mainly because there is no standard lamp design, prices are astronomical. Your lamps are going to run you about $350.00 a pop! March 4, 200818 yr Lamp life for a projector will vary based on many factors including application, installation, intake of cool air and exhaust of hot air, usage, and proper maintenance. Heat buildup can reduce lamp life and even damage your projector.Once you turn on your projector, wait at least five minutes before turning it off to allow the fan to properly cool the unit. Do not obstruct the air intake or exhaust vent. Keep the exhaust vent at least two feet from any object. If the projector is built into a compartment, wall, ceiling or shelf mount, the minimum distance requirement (usually at least two feet) stated in your owners manual must be maintained. Clean the projector's air intake filter every three to six months - or more frequently - based on your operating environment. Do not move your projector until the lamp has cooled (about five minutes).RegardsJim
March 4, 200818 yr Also when the the indicator to change the lamp comes on, don't let it go to long, and certainly not wait until it burns out. These lamps get so hot that when they do they may explode in the projector, then you'll have debris and glass all in the inside, and may permanently damage the projector. Projectors are great display devices, but they do require greater care then your normal TV or monitor. Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
March 4, 200818 yr Author Hi Jim,I run a Dual Core E2140 with a 8800 GTS 640mb, 2mb ram. I have an acceptable frame rate in FSX so I play both. Prefer FSX much better for all those extra camera angles, moving traffic and more realistic ground. I will try the vertical span That should work great! Thanks!
March 4, 200818 yr Let us know how you get on, a lot will depend on whether your Graphics card recognises the native resolution of your projector (1280x720) and then whether you run a standard or widescreen monitor. If you run a standard monitor at 1280x1024 you may be able to run a vertical span of (1280x720)+(1280x1024) = 1280x1744You will then need to set up the Display properties in FS to match your new screen resolution settingsIt will all depend on what your Graphics card detects as the available resolutions on your projector. VC mode should present no problems if you set up the display properties in FS correctlyWhen running in 2D mode you will then need to drag your instrument panel to fit the monitor and may have to drag the outside part of the view to fit the projector. Almost all default 2D panels are configured for a 4:3 aspect ratio. Saving in FS9 usually preserves these settings but its not true of FSX (but at least you can drop flour bombs from a Microlight!!!)Let us know your monitor resolution and what resolutions Display properties allows for your projector and then I can give some more specific advice.RegardsJim
March 4, 200818 yr Author Hi,I have already connected my computer to an Infocus X1 at my friend's. The only way it would recognize it's full potiential (up to 1080i) was by component connection. I plan to do the same connection so it should recognize it easily. The Epson being 720p native up to 1080i should give amazing results. Can't beat what we have at my work but i'm not ready to invest about 8 million. :(Anywho, I should receive it next week, will install it over the weekend and not move from there for 48 hours.Later!Marc
