Windows Vista SP1

Featured Replies

Hi everybody, Please allow me to add, some Vista Ultimate users should maybe wait for the next 'wave' as this SP1 apparently doesn't have the necessary language pack fixes yet. Only 'Ultimate-English' will work OK AFAIK. My personal recommendation would be, make sure all the device drivers are upto date. Particularly those of the network interfaces. Finally, please don't forget to make the necessary backups before going ahead. Cheers and kind regards Jaap

Here are the download links for the "5-Language" Windows Vista SP1:X86 (32-bit): http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=8558877 (435 MBy)X64 (64-bit): http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=8558878 (727 MBy)The languages are:1. English (US)2. French3. German4. Japanese5. Spanish (Traditional)Download speed is currently capped by Microsoft at 32 KBit/Sec, so be veeery patient: The files download at about 100 MBy/Hr!)Happy Landings,jahman.

I've installed it, but please be aware that Microsoft KNOW that there are still some driver issues, and if you load it from the big download, you may end up with more problems than you solve!Best way to get it is from Windows Update, because using this service, the pack won't even be offered to you if you have any of the affected drivers, or if you don't have the three prerequisite updates loaded. On top of that, the Windows Update will tailor what you get according to what you already have - my download was 66 meg, a bBIG saving on the 450 meg of the download package.

Yeah, I got it thru update and it was only about 66 mbs. Got it installed and everything is working fine. I note less hard-drive thrashing which is much appreciated. Couple of other things I've noticed since the install - I seem to have found 50 gigs of HD space! Prior to SP1 I was reporting about 310 gigs free, and now I've got 360gigs freespace. hmmm...Also, in running some laps last night in a couple of racing sims (GTR2 & NR2003) I felt like there was an improvment in both smoothness and visual quality. I'm not sure what would account for that, and I doubted what my eyes were telling me. But I couldn't shake the feeling that things looked and moved significantly better...

I installed it also, Didnt notice any difference.

>Best way to get it is from Windows UpdateThat depends: If you frequently rebuild your System, having the downloaded "full" version can save you quite a bit of time!Further, I get the heebie-jeebies from being online with a 100% *unpatched* version of Vista waiting for the various and sundry updates to download. Finally, as of now all PCs you buy and stand-alone Vistas will sport SP1.Cheers,-jahman.

yes, same as always. Some troll claims to have problems and other kids immediately claim you should not install updates for Windows.I'm getting a major case of deja vu here. Exactly the same thing happened with XP SP1, XP SP2, and service packs to Windows 98.

If you'd read the thread you would see that I as well as the original poster and others have issues as well as countlees others on the Nvidia Forums. It's a classic case of Microsoft making changes prior to hardware vendors being notified and updating their drivers. If you run an Nvidia card (with the latest drivers installed) your Vsync will be turned off all of the time if you install Vista SP1 its that simple. My guess would be its one of many.

Hi Sargeski, sorry to hear about the troubles. FWIW and I forgot to mention, MS recommends to download it via Windows Update if standalone. The installation will (apparently) abort if it finds wrong drivers. Here's some more info: http://windowsvistablog.com/blogs/windowsv...ows-update.aspxKind regards Jaap

SP1 was downloaded via Windows Vista Update. In theory Microsoft's idea of scanning a system for hardware or driver issues prior to allowing the download of SP1 is great. In real world application I'm inclined to beleive its just a tad bit flawed.--Bob

yes, for blaming Microsoft for something that's out of their control. You're running an overclocked videocard I see, no doubt using some hacked or beta drivers to get "higher fps" as well. You're also blaming Microsoft for the failure of a third party to provide updates to their products in a timely fashion. What I see there is just another "anti-M$" trolling attempt as we've seen so often from the slashdot kiddos and those who think it would be "kewl" to be one. That makes you (like all trolls) a kid, mentally if maybe not physically.EDITED BY ADMINJwenting, being a >5000 posts veteran doesn't exempt you from being polite. Please refrain from this kind of agressive remarks.FINAL WARNING SIR!David Roch

As I suggested in another forum, have you reported your issues rto Microsoft? If so, have they responded to you, and if so, what was their response?

What in the world is 'slashdot'? Seriously. Please explain.

>yes, for blaming Microsoft for something that's out of their>control.>>You're running an overclocked videocard I see, no doubt using>some hacked or beta drivers to get "higher fps" as well.169.25's are betas???....get your facts straight. I guess you must of read a post where I was at one time using a beta. And the card is factorey OC'd. Have you ever heard of the saying don't assume? Get your facts straight.>You're also blaming Microsoft for the failure of a third party>to provide updates to their products in a timely fashion.I'm guessing if what was contained in SP1 was fully included in RC1 this would have been noticed since it effects so many computer users but that's not Microsoft's fault. Or, on the other hand they were aware of it and sent out the update anyway but thats not their fault either. It's my fault for downloading the update to my OS. >What I see there is just another "anti-M$" trolling attempt as>we've seen so often from the slashdot kiddos and those who>think it would be "kewl" to be one.>That makes you (like all trolls) a kid, mentally if maybe not>physically. The intent of my quote was to alert simmers to potential problems with Vista SP1 and not bash the beloved Microsoft. You sir are truely are an arrogant "X#X#0"!
