Yoke Thoughts

Featured Replies

Hello Yoke Owners,I have been tinkering again with the thought of getting a yoke.A joystick has been serving me alright up until now, but last time I tried a yoke, I saw what a joy it is, and how much more "feeling" and immersion one can get. Now, I own ONE computer. With ONE screen.I also do other stuff on PC, play another games too.I have been looking into getting this new Saitek Pro Flight System (last time I had it, it had problems, but thought of giving it a chance once again). That presents one problem: when not flying, I have to remove the yoke, quadrant and pedals. While pedals aren't that much of a trouble, each time unscrewing the yoke and the two quads, and also mounting it each time, seems pretty much fussy. How do you yoke owners solve these problems? Do you simply have so much space/monay to have a workstation and a flying station?!Thoughts are appreciated!

when I still used a yoke, that's exactly what I did, unscrew it whenever not in use.As a result both the mounting screws on the yoke and the table got damaged.Pedals can remain in place, they don't bother me below my desk. In fact they make nice footrests :)P.S. I don't mind a stick at all. Many aircraft use them instead of a yoke of course, especially military aircraft, oldtimers, and some modern light aircraft.Strangely for me the resources to have a separate gaming machine and work machine(s) came at the same time as making the move (back) from a yoke to a stick. And now I have 4 machines at home, a gaming machine, a server, and 2 laptops for work and study.

Hello Word Not Allowed, Well i solved the same problem of changing every couple of days from my joystick to my car racing wheel by fitting each of them on a melamine shelf 18 X 10inchs but double thickness,i just change them over on my desktop in front of the PC as i have drilled though the shelf holding the wheel/joystick ,though my desktop and fitted with two 3/16 bolts and wingnuts,it takes no time at all to swop them over, you may want to use clamps to hold them of course, I hope this helps and you understand what i mean! Cheers.

> I hope this helps and you understand what i mean!Hardly :-) Some photos would be nice!I figured already out that swapping is surely the way to go, question is only, how much space can one afford.

Hi, Sorry if it seems confusing, unforunately i do not own a Digital camera for any photo's, just make a base on which to fix your yoke etc and fit it to your desk, as for space, well that depends on your setup with your PC, i made my own top just for my simming on my PC so space is not a problem. Cheers.

I went a different route than Dodger. I cut an opening into the front of my desk and installed a hinged "leaf" to the bottom of the desktop. My yoke is mounted to this leaf. The first picture shows the leaf in the down poition and you can see how the keyboard covers the opening in the desk top.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/187128.jpgIn the second picture, I'm all set up for flight sim; yoke up and ready. You can see the keyboard has been moved to the right but is still available for FS key presses.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/187129.jpgThis has worked well for me.R-

Word Not Allowed: "While pedals aren't that much of a trouble, each time unscrewing the yoke and the two quads, and also mounting it each time, seems pretty much fussy. How do you yoke owners solve these problems?"Hey Word Not Allowed, I made myself a yoke/rudder stand to solve the very problems you describe. I also made a throttle tray which attaches right to my chair and holds the throttle from the Saitek X48. When I'm done flying, I just unplug everything and it sits in my office closet. These aren't the most polished accessories, but everything is consolidated and transports easily. If I ever get a spare moment, I plan on building a yoke stand out of ridgid PVC, so then it will be adjustable in height. I have the plans, just not the time........hope it helps. http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/187140.jpgRegards, Kendall#1: [email protected]/Coolermaster HyperTX2 Gigabyte P35-DS3L 4GB Ballistix Tracers PC6400 EVGA 8800GT - 169.28's Seagate 250GB 7200.11 CH Yoke/Pedals/Saitek Throttle Dual Monitor: Dell 2405/1905 #2: Dell 8400 3.2 H.T. 3GB PC4200 - X800XT Diamond Xtreme/Logitech X-530's
