Good Day,Another request for suggestions on the following build...... My AMD 64 3500+ and ATI X850XT are starting to show their age and will need to be replaced...... I am looking at a build of the system below and welcome any help you can provide.... The systems main heavy duty power use will be FS9 with all the addons and possibly a reload of FSX.... I removed FSX not long after purchase as current system was not up to it......If I build this and see any

I'd say - a little overkill for FS9, with that system you'd be able to get high sliders within FSX (can't promise no stutters though, that's usually system specific)I myself like the E8500, but yeah, the Q6600 will do too OCedYou could always get 4GB's of faster RAM, or DDR3 RAM (mooola) With this system PLAN on installing FSX again :)

Yes you will WANT to re-load FSX on that new machine.It will run pretty high sliders on FSX, but of course you will still need to make compromises, but they are minor.Stutters? I don't have any, but I have DDR3. I cannot comment on DDR2 + E8500 because I went straight to 4 gigs of DDR3. Personally I would go for 4 gigs of DDR3 over 8 gigs of DDR2. You don't need 8 gigs of ram unless you're into video editing, etc. FS will never use 8. Cost of DDR3 is minor in my opinion, considering what we used to spend on ram back in the 1990's. DDR2 is insanely cheap.3.6 will be an easy overclock with the E8500. You could really probably get 3.8 to 4.0 on air.And regarding the dual E8500 vs. a quad. I say, if you are going to keep the computer for 3 or 4 years, get the quad. You'll thank yourself later. On the other hand if you are going to rebuild in 2 years or so, a dual will give you everything and more during that time.Do your homework on the ATI 4870. I do not know how it works with FS. Probably pretty well, but check the threads, especially on cloud rendering, which was a problem with the ATI 3800 series cards. I think there are one or two threads in here on the 4870's.All else looks good.
