October 28, 200817 yr I just bought a Palit 9800GTX+ to replace my 8600GT but will not be able to test the installation until next week and am able to exchange it until then. I have heard there are two things to watch with the 9800GTX+,1) You need a new motherboard because the 9800GTX+ has an extra power connector, is this true? What does this additional connector look like? I have a MSI P35 Neo Intel775 motherboard, will this need to change?2) The Palit card has a huge fan on the card which is apparently bigger than the normal fan, but what I hear is that the card is noisy. True?Would be good if someone could comment on this so I could exchange to a 4850 or a 9800GT or something else.ThanksShez Shez Ansari Windows 11; CPU: Intel Core i7-8700K; GPU: EVGA GEFORCE GTX 1080Ti 11GB; MB: Gigabyte Z370 AORUS Gaming 5; RAM: 16GB; HD: Samsung 960 Pro 512GB SSD, Samsung 850 Pro 256GB SSD; Display: ASUS 4K 28", Asus UHD 26"
October 28, 200817 yr I have done the exact same thing as you but am replacing my MOBO because it fried while overclocking. The extra 6-pin power coupler (so 2 in total) for this card is provided by the power supply (PSU) and has NOTHING to do with your MOBO.
October 28, 200817 yr Author Thanks for replying. So you are saying that the PCI-e slot is the same as for the 8600GT? And the only change is that we have to plug in the card to the power supply directly?RegardsShez Shez Ansari Windows 11; CPU: Intel Core i7-8700K; GPU: EVGA GEFORCE GTX 1080Ti 11GB; MB: Gigabyte Z370 AORUS Gaming 5; RAM: 16GB; HD: Samsung 960 Pro 512GB SSD, Samsung 850 Pro 256GB SSD; Display: ASUS 4K 28", Asus UHD 26"
