November 3, 200817 yr Hi, My Q9300 died and I have to get a new CPU. Should I still look at Quad core or get a higher end Duel core? I run Vista 64 bit. 8 gb ram, EVGA 780i MB, 2 EVGA 9800GTX video cards. November 4, 200817 yr Commercial Member For your rig specs nothing short of a Q9450 will be sufficient. Given your use of SLI slower quad cores will likely cause CPU bottlenecks.I HIGHLY recommend you go with the new Q9650. The stepping on this CPU allows it to clock to near 4GHz without too many hassles, much better than any other quad core. Forget Dual Cores - they are yesterdays news as far as FSX is concerned.Konrad Konrad
November 4, 200817 yr Surely your Q9300 is under warranty - 3 years? Get Intel to replace it.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
