Help Needed with Dual Boot Issue

Featured Replies

Hi FolksI run a dual boot (WinXP/Vista) system, normally with XP on the 1st partition of drive 0, and Vista on the 1st partition of drive 1. I used the std method when installing Vista for the boot choices. However, drive 1 has now failed, taking my Vista installation with it - dead! I've managed to put a previously cloned image (phew!) on the 2nd partition of drive 0 (after WinXP), using a bootable CD of Norton Ghost. When I boot, I still get the choice, but I can only now select WindowsXP.How can I make partition 2 bootable, AND tell it where to find Vista?I'm desparate on this now - can anyone please help? Thanks

Do a boot to CD procedure to your Vista DVDDo a repair step, select the boot repairTYhat should work

Hi Phil,Have you tried editing the file C:boot.ini yet? It sounds like you need to point the Vista boot option to another HD and partition. (I assume that you have already edited boot.ini previously if you are running a dual-boot config, however this is not a file you should be touching if you don;t understand how it works).Bruce.

Thanks guys, will try the CD boot repair. With a dual Vista/XP installation, the XP boot.ini file only applies to various options for XP, once XP is selected. There's another file hiding somewhere that Vista created that i need to find,

Once you get it repaired then you can get the freeware BCEdit which will properly configure boot priorities etc...
