PMDG B1900 repainting

Featured Replies

Help, please I am at my wits end.I'm trying to paint the PMDG B1900, but whatever I try my textures will not show up. When i look at the info the d/l'd repaints for it are totally different texture sizes to mine. Ie 32bit, and nothing will let me make mine the same size, PSP will not let me take the size up to 32bit, it seems to insist on saving as 24bit no matter what i do, even if i copy and paste my textures into the originals it adopts the size of the pasted layer.I'm not the world's best painter I'd be the first to admit, but I can paint CapnSim 727, Flight1 DC9 and others with some success, but not this one. Please help, anyone?John Bower

Hi JohnAre you using utility "DXTbmp" to open your textures for repainting and then saving them again through DXTbmp ?Gus

I've tried that, problem is only some of the textures on that plane seem to be dxt3, others seem to be normal bmp files. But as i say the problem is i can save them as 24 bit, but not 32 for some reason. Don't have this problem with any of the others i've painted.

JohnI created a spare copy of the PMDG Beech 1900D and then opened up all of the textures in DXTbmp and then saved all of them in both the DXT3 and the extended 32 bit formats...no problems. If you would like to send me just one of the textures that you are having problems with, then I will have a look at it for you.Gus

Thanks, sorry i didn't come back sooner, been busy making up hours. I joined a VA just this last couple of days and i've been doing some pretty intensive flying to get my hours up.I'm gonna try a different approach, maybe cut & paste it as a selection onto a default B1900D, see if that works.

John, what the other poster was trying to say is that you NEED to use DXTBmp to save your BMPs, PSP only saves in 24 highest, 32 bit is a 24 bit with an alpha layer. Open the texture in DXTBmp and then send it to PSP, paint it, and then don't close it, but refresh in DXTBmp and then save as either 32 bit w/ alpha or DXT3 w/ alpha and see what works and what doesn't, you can always go back in PSP since you left it open.If you are using a layered paintkit, open it in PSP and do the paint, then save it as a BMP in 24 bit, then open that BMP with DXTBmp and save it as either 32 or DXT3, You'll ned to add an alpha channel afterwards if you want. Hope that helps.Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/PBTMCa.jpgCalVirAir International VACalVirAir International

John,It is a very frustrating experience getting all the pieces associated with painting together - believe me I know. However, not long ago I found the most perfect tool for painting that anyone can use and you'll NEVER have to worry about formats, image viewing, or any of the internal workings of graphics files and their extensions.Proceed immediately to the Abacus site and purchase (it's cheap) FSRepaint. Configure it to work with your favorite graphics program (I use PSP) and you're all set. You'll never have to use any external utility again - unless you want to edit the alpha channel.FSRepaint is the most clever front-end to a graphics program I've ever seen and the best part is it reads FS *.bmp files directly without going through any conversions or other nonsense. It is also the perfect 3D aircraft viewer so you won't have to guess how your creations will look in FS. It's all right there in front of you.I promise you you'll not be sorry.fb

Do try the trial version first though - if I bought it, I would have been sorry, because with my setup, 3/4 of the aircraft either do not load at all, or most of the aircraft is missing, or the textures are all transparent. I have not traced it to a single cause (video card, driver version, whatever), but it certainly does not like my system. I have found it good as a preview pane - so I can see results without loading FS, but even then the rendition seems off somewhat. Maybe that is my system at work again...Brian
