How do I recreate this shine?

Featured Replies

I'm very close to completion on the GMAX version of this plane, but I'm still working on the right texture effect. I have a good sun reflection, but it is very focused. I'd like to duplicate the effect seen on Milton Shupe's Howard wings. I'm using PSP...any hints?http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/90429.jpg

Hi,Now, I believe what your refering to is the subtle "dynamic shine", as far as I know this type of shine is controlled by your material selection in GMAX.As for shine on textures, you add them by using the alpha channel, basically this is a greyscale version of your texutre that you import into DXTBMP, what this does is controls the amount of "reflectiveness", I think this is important as reflectiveness is not the same as shine.i.e., the darker the grey in your alpha channel the more reflective the texture, I have noticed that you can get some odd "washed out" chrome effects in FS2004, to my mind alpha channels do not work as well in 2004 as they used to in 2002.Hope that helps someDan.

Just contact Milton and ask ;-) [email protected]'s the specular highlight controlled via GMAX ;-) Very important to have a balance there between the alpha channel also.... other wise the paint is out of balance...I'm curious to see that model in FS ;-) if you need any texture help regarding tips let me know :-)Andr
