July 21, 200718 yr Hi all,I'm trying to "spruce up" the default DC-3 Delta Airlines livery (just practice-learning), and I would like to know how to find the nose-top anti-glare area in front of the cockpit. I suppose it would be found on the rather cryptic-looking jumbled up texture file that Microsoft calls "Douglas_DC3_1_T.bmp"But where to find it on there? Is it a wrap-around texture or something like that?I have Donald Dervin's dc3ddlzc.zip, and its anti-glare area is brown. I want to paint that black. Can someone please lend a hand?Thanks!!4deucer
July 21, 200718 yr Assuming we are talking about FS9.Download free demo version of FSRepaint from Abacus and explore the textures. As far as I know , a free demo for FSRepaint for FSX is not yet available.Leen
July 21, 200718 yr Appreciate your response, Leen. However, what I really need is someone's help in how to find the area of the DC-3 fuselage that I want to paint. I can take care of the rest with Corel Photo-Paint.-------------------------INSTANT UPDATE---------------------------------Oops! Well, I found it fellers!! It's the brownish patch you see (in my uploaded attachment) just forward of cockpit (on right-hand side of this texture file).Thanks,4deucer
July 21, 200718 yr Hi 4deucer,As we say in Holland , it`s better to teach fishing instead of giving fish.By pointing you to FSRepaint , I was giving you the rod to catch the fish yourself. With the help of this great tool , finding spots like these can be done within seconds.RegardsLeen de Jager
July 24, 200718 yr http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/175684.jpgFSRepaint is also availble for FSX[/font size] from abacuspub.com
July 25, 200718 yr Thanks for mapping it out like that, wji !! Appreciate your time--nice(and instructive) screenshots!Best regards,4deucer
July 26, 200718 yr Commercial Member LeenI've noticed you've talked frequently on this forum of using FSRepaint as a tool for locating obscure parts of a texture. Is this a trial & error process, i.e. add a splash of color somewhere on the texture and then check the preview to see where it wound up, or are there some type of guidelines or highlight area I'm missing that shows what part of the texture is mapped to a specific part of the model when you click on it or something? Am I missing something in the FSRepaint settings that needs to be switched on? I can't seem to make it do anything useful here other than the obvious real-time preview update.Could you detail your procedure for me please? Thanks,Jim
July 26, 200718 yr Hi Jim,No it is absolutely not a matter of trial and error.Using my method with FSRepaint enables you to find any spot on any plane within a handfull of seconds.I made a little demo using one of the Fokker F28 repaints I made ,as painter, for Project Fokker Jetline.Step 1Launch the model in FSRepaintStep 2Open the sheet where all texurefiles are shownStep 3If you do not know on which texturefile the spot you`re looking for is situated , simply fill all these textures ( you can open and edit them by clicking) with a massive colour (I used red) until the part of the plane you`re looking for is filled with that colour.Select the whole texture with the paint-bucket (select the colour first) and click to fill. Now you know on wich texturesheet your spot is situated.**Step 4 Simply undo the colouring of the last texture (Ctrl+Z)Step 5Start with the line-tool from the left upper corner of the texture and draw a red line towards the other side and swing the line (radial).Watch the spot you`re looking for (on the model shown in the main screen of FSRepaint) until the red line appears on the spot.Leave that line in this position.Step 6Repeat step 5 starting from the richt upper corner. The moment the red line passes your spot the second time , the two lines are crossing eachother.Step 7You have found the location of your spot! It`s just at the crossing of the lines. That`s all there is to.Search and find in less than 20 seconds.Have fun,Regards Leen de Jager** Whenever filling all the textures with a massive colour does not change the colour of the spot , the colour for this spot is controlled by the model-file and CANNOT be changedhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/175725.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/175726.jpg
July 26, 200718 yr Commercial Member Thank you very much, Leen. Crosshairs; what a brilliant concept! I truly appreciate the trouble you put into the presentation as well. I used to put numbered grids on blank textures to find spots like this, what a pain. FSRepaint has just been removed from the "endangered" list on my computer.BTW, I have that Sabena livery and have flown it quite a lot :) .Thanks again,Jim
