FSx - Reducing texture size with DXTBMP?

Featured Replies

I know what I used to do in DXTBMP to reduce 32bit testures to DXT3 in FS9 - and just tried to do the same in FSx (saving to DDS DXT5 textures instead) -- but WOOPS - it did WEIRD things to the a/c.Could somebody kindly point me towards a walkthroughThanks Barry

Hi,there should be no problems if you use imagetool from the SDK (SDKEnvironment KitTerrain SDK).I hope you have the deluxe version of FSX...I also reduce the 32Bit textures to DXT5 or sometimes DXT3 and i wasn't able to make working DDS files with DXTBMP, but i have no problems with imagetool.

Hi NilsThanks for that - but in the meantime, I have been able to getDXTBMP to work converting 32bit to DXT5.In FS9, I used to save to DXT3 with no mips - because I found that mips made addon a/c "fuzzy". No mips = nice clear external view of a/c.But in FSx, it appears that you must save to DXT5 format with mips. (at least when using DXTBMP). This does not appear to be as big a problem for me in FSx as it was in FS9. The external views of the a/c in FSx are quite clear. Barry

"But in FSX, it appears that you must save to DXT5 format with mips"Goodonya, Barry, you figured it out all by yourself. At least that's how Martin Wright explains it . . . an he authored DXTbmp program so he must know something about it. :-)I experienced the same thing after repainting my first FSX aircraft repaint and Martin was good enough to answer me at his forum. Thanks again to Martin for all his FREEstuff and support.http://www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/
