July 25, 200817 yr Does anyone know what font McDonnell Douglas used on aircraft such as the DC-9/DC-10, etc.? It almost looks like a square blocky gothic font, but I haven't had much luck in finding it.
July 29, 200817 yr DC-9,I'm not really sure what the name of the font used by McDonnell Douglas was, but while searching for a logo myself, I happened to stumble across a thread more or less along the same lines as your own. Somene suggested the following: http://bjones4.com/temp/MD.psdI suppose you might try to contact him, see if he might be able to help you out. Failing that you might want to try: http://www.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/. If I manage to come across anything myself I'll keep my eyes peeled. Skyknight.
July 30, 200817 yr Thanks. The font I'm actually trying to find out is the older one from the 1960s/70s when it was "Douglas Aircraft Company". So far, I haven't had much luck. :(

I do not mean to ask you a really stupid question, but are you by chance looking for the font used on the prototype DC-10/DC-9 or is it the font used by the company itself? If so there is a font called Korataki, which is very similar, although the Douglas version might be a custom variation on it. but I might be mistaken. I will keep my eyes peeled for a similar version if exists.Skyknight
August 5, 200817 yr DC-9 I might have to revise my earlier post. I have found a font which seems to match the Company/Prototype criteria(I hope I'm closer this time). The font is Bank Gothic Light(and not the Korataki as I first thought)and should be located in the default font selection that came with Windows XP :-). Hope this is the font you are looking for. If not I'll get back to look around.Skyknight
August 12, 200817 yr Sorry for my late reply. I was for several days. Yeah, it's the one you see on the prototype aircraft. I tried Bank Gothic, but it doesn't match. I would have thought more people are here might know, but apparently not. :(
August 12, 200817 yr You could always use a similar font, use an original image as a template and edit the path of the text to make it accurate. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
August 14, 200817 yr DC-9,Sorry I was a little vague and really should have been more specific about the font type. I should have said it is a modification of BankGothic Lt Bold Italic (Western script). There are probably a number of differences although main ones seem to be the elongation of the characters(ex. in the C) as well some of their features( the letters M & E). I have attached a .JPG just as a sample(not a great one mind), just in case you want to give mcwdainow's suggestion a shot, I have also have a similar .PSD ready to go should you require it. I made the comparison using Peter de Groot's picture of the DC-10-30 Prototype(which you have no doubt looked at)over at Airliners.net(http://www.airliners.net/photo/McDonnell-Douglas/McDonnell-Douglas-DC-10-30/0392286/M/ ). As I said its not perfect, but it is near to it as I think I can get without any editing, I might look into editing it in the next week or two, but it will probably take a bit of work. Skyknight Just out of interest is it a DC-9 or a DC-10 you are painting?
