Reversing the T7

Recommended Posts

Hello, two issues limit the use of thrust reversers: collateral effects and engine damage. Not all aircraft and airports are similar, but the B777 and many other large transports are prohibited from using reverse or normal substantial thrust off the duty runway:1. Collateral impact: Powerful engines can cause severe damage from their hot gas flow blasted at objects nearby. The compressors of such turbine engines which are installed low can suck in objects and people. While at Test Pilot School, a colleague US Navy pilot lost a finger, sucked into the Northrop T-38 intake having shut it down then dismounted holding the helmet bag. That GE was a mini-turbine engine, coasting to a hault at the time. Noise is another consideration. Therefore thrust rating for ground operation is limited by airports to idle or near idle, except on the duty runways and designated run-up areas.See also my other post in this thread about backing-up from the gate using reverse thrust.2. Engine damage: During reverse thrust operation, exhaust gasses could be reingested by the engine intake. Due to the increased temperature of such ingestion, the engine could exceed design limits and incur permanent damage. Reingestion is more likely to occur where the engines are installed low and close to the runway. This is the main reason for limiting airspeed for reverse thrust operation in most turbine engine aircraft, around 60 to 80 KIAS, depending on wind tunnel test results.>The problem with using reversers with wing mounted engines is>that they can will suck things into an engine, like people>(FOD). That is why you are to cut off reversers at 60 knots.>Plus the reversers are to only assist with stopping and the>brakes do most of the work.

Refersers usually take a about 1-2 second to deploy, so if you are using keyboard then hold F2 for about a second or two... If you are using FSUIPC assignments for your REV then check if you could add some sort of a repeat function to the assigment.http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_1_16.gifhttp://www.avsim.com/pss/banner_es.jpghttp://online.vatsimindicators.net/855693/848.png
