December 16, 200619 yr My engine inlets do not show the first row of compressor blades spinning, for some reason?http://users.frii.com/viciii3/TMII_inlets.jpg The "F1_B732_F4_T.bmp" shows 3 sets of engine inlet textures but all I get is the "non-spinning" version. December 16, 200619 yr What causes this is the fact that in real life those blades do not spin either. They are inlet guide vanes, not compressor blades. December 17, 200619 yr Author Thanks Bob. The 4 GE gas turbines we run at the powerplant have inlet guide vanes also but I didn't realize aircraft with older "low bypass" turbo-jets also had them. Our GE's vanes are variable in that the angle changes with unit load demand, to prevent compressor stall. I take it these are fixed in place? Thanks again! Vic Victor Buck
December 17, 200619 yr Yes...there are fixed IGVs on the -9 through -17. The -200s used in the DC9/MD80 may have VIGVs, though...not sure. Variable IGVs came along a bit later in the evolution.
