Empty Texture folders in addon scenery

Featured Replies

I wanted to re-emphasize something that Bill Leaming mentioned in reply to a CTD problem of another poster. He said to make sure there are no empty texture folders anywhere FS9 flies.I had several downloaded sceneries in addon scenery where I had empty texture folders. One scenery was giving me "File Not Found" logs in filemon. It had an empty texture folder which I removed. No more "Not Found" logs in that area from filemon. Another download was "Canadian Roads". In every Canadian province there was an empty texture folder, which I removed.I wasn't having CTDs but I was always bothered by micro stutters as I watched the scenery pass by the window at low altitude. I try to achieve a nice fluid motion as the scenery passes by.I'm real happy with how FS9 is performing and I'm back to using 512x512 3D cloud textures. If empty texture folders can cause CTDs, I think they can contribute to micro stutters and removing the ones I had, freed up the processor's confusion when it looked for something. My opinion anyway.Daryll

Hi,I think those texture folders are needed where the add-on scenery needs to read the standard textures in FS9. Sometimes extra textures are added in to the folder if they are needed. If you check you will see that flight add-ons don't need textures but Kai Tak 63 has extra textures in a folder, so you should be careful about getting rid of all of them! Andy.

He's talking about empty texture folders, and they are bad, bad juju if they appear anywhere that FS9 can find them.RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VSantiago de Chile

Hi,I could of sworn I had some of those empty folders, but I've checked and there aren't, so I probably never did, and apologies for any confusion caused!Andy.

Hi,In fact I've come across one- in the scenery folder in FS9 called SWIJT2004 is an empty texture folder, but when you hold the mouse to it to see how big it is, even though empty it says 4.6Kbs!Andy.

Hi,<<>>>Going there now to exterminate it.Andy.

Hi, I read your posts today searching for something else and I thought that you might be interested to know that the "Texture" folder of my SWIJT2004 is not empty. It contains "SWIJ2k4road.bmp" which is obviously needed for the new roads to show.John K
